Fields of rockrose

in #photography6 years ago

It all starts from a little bud in early spring. They grow fast in the warm spring sun. Thousands of them! On the bushes of Cistus plant.

It is quite an invasive plant around even though it looks amazing when in bloom. Large white or pink flowers that cover the fields, sides of the roads and more open, sunny parts of woods. They spread fast and need to be removed before the summer homes. Highly flammable, sticky substance means no good for the area. They handle the Portuguese heat well, but they also burn easily.

But when the bloom...

Little cuties :)

A Cistus plant is best propagated from cuttings. The plants should be planted in well-drained soil in a sunny spot. They can be a part of gravel garden, a slope or raised bed is more suitable. You may plant them from May to September they look beautiful when they bloom

Pink and white - are they of same species? The white one looks like a poppy. Stunning! :)

Yea, they are both Cistus plants. Just different type. Some have darker spot in the petals, some don't.
The flower does look like a poppy :) Pity they do not come in red too.

They are quite lovely. They almost look like paper flowers. I imagine they would be a pretty spectacular site to see a field covered in the white blossoms. Pity they are so dangerous come summer.

It was something I didn't see anywhere else before I moved to Portugal. I was amazed to see those white bushes just like that. Growing wild. It's pretty amazing :)

Last shot really sealed the deal. Do you grow anything at home or in house?

Thanks :))
I do grow lots of stuff at home and on balcony. Not those exactly. Too big. And they grow everywhere around so no need. :)
