Shooting Hair Portrait Using Stroboscopic Techniques

in #photography6 years ago (edited)

(original hair with no stroboscopic effect yet)

The following images are created using Broncolor Siros S800 lights firing multiple times per second during a long exposure (1-2seconds)

By keeping the model still and blowing the hair around we where able to bring a sense of motion to the portrait shots that created a beautiful stroboscopic effect around the hair.

Whilst blowing the hair, the model sits absolutely still and the strobe light fires multiple times during a long exposure.

This creates the impression of motion around the hair in a more effective way than just an ordinary single flash.

You dont need expensive lights to try this technique out, although it does help, you can simply shoot with a long exposure on a tripod asking your model to sit still. Use a hair dryer to blow the hair around and keep going until you get the lucky moment you are looking for.
