Journey Home - A Nature Adventure
Those of you that have been following me know that my kids are into nature and love studying just about anything that crawls. Sometimes it creeps me out the things they bring to show me but in the same sense I’m glad they are mini brave explorers.
A few weeks ago I get a call early in the morning from my dad asking me to get the kids ready to go outside. All he told me was he had something they would love to see. When he arrived he had this unique looking turtle in the trunk of his car. He found it trying to cross the road. He literally didn’t see him until the last minute and almost hit him. He put our kids in charge of watching over him as he journeyed home.
Since I knew it could take all day to see this little fellow off, I decided to get a series of shots while we waited. I played around with the color edits to get different looks.
The kids wanted to give him lettuce to fuel him for the long journey ahead...but he politely declined :)
At first he wouldn’t budge at all to come out of his shell but once the kids settled down and out of his face finally we were able to see more of him.
Here are some closeup details of his face...
Full shell...(still refusing the lettuce lol)
Side profile...
After I finished snapping the closeups and the kids were quiet on the porch he finally decided to start his journey home.
After he reached our driveway we knew he would be headed toward our neighbors yard.
We just hoped and prayed he would stay on the grass path and not into the street again.
We could only watch for so long before it was time for us to head back to the house. It was another fun adventure for the kids and I’m glad my dad chose them to watch over the turtle. Making lasting memories are a huge goal in our family so we try to jump on as many opportunities as possible.
How nice that your little explorers get to interact with different sort of creatures others learn about only form books! ;0)
Thank you! It really is nice! There’s nothing like hands on learning...they just get it better when they can see and feel things and observe them up closely :)
Thanks so much for the visit ~
What a fun adventure for the kids and such cool shots i hope he safely made it to somewhere he can be comfortable and safe

Thank you kindly!!! We really hope he made it to a safe place too!!
Thanks so much for the tip!!!
MOst welcome :)
Yay!! Another turtle saved! So glad the kids got to experience that rescue! So sweet! We are always pulling off the road to save a turtle, can't stand to think of them being harmed. A wonderful lesson for the kiddos :)
Thank you so much I am so glad for the experience too :)
I can’t stand the thought of it either, good for you all too ~ 💗
How fun!
I liked how you and your children hosted the beautiful turtle 🐢 without even considering keeping him as a pet or otherwise caging him. And great pictures

Thank you! Yes when my brother, sister and I were young we did “try” to keep a turtle as a pet but we could see how much he wanted to get out of that box and be free. I always tell my kids you can visit with them, explore them, study but at the end of the day everything needs to be released back in the wild where they love and belong :)
I’m glad you enjoyed the photos ~
