Exploring the Mexican Colonial City of Guanajuato, Contributed by @TangerineTravels
We've been traveling through Mexico for a little over two months now, getting recommendations along the way. No single city has been recommended to us as much as Guanajuato.
It's a seemingly unlikely place for a city; it's basically carved out of the sides of a mountain. That means there's a lot of steep hills and no shortage of magnificent views.
It was no easy task driving up to our Airbnb on the side of one of the mountains, but the view was worth it when we arrived. Here's the view as you look out from the terrace of the place we're staying.
As we were walking down to the city center last night, we came across this open door that led down a long series of steps. Next to this door were advertisements for a local shop showcasing some of the products they were selling. Who would've guessed that someone would have a business tucked away like this? Look far into the background and you can see just a few of the many colorful buildings in this city.
All through the city you'll found that the buildings are connected to each other. The city reminds me a little of Amsterdam thanks to this quirk.
We just arrived yesterday evening so we haven't been able to explore much but down near the city center, there was no shortage of magnificent photography opportunities. Check out the sun glowing off of that vibrant building!
These photos are both of that same vibrant orange building after dark.
We have 10 nights in this city and if our first day was any indication of what's to come, we are excited to explore more!
The city looks beautiful, even though you said you haven't explored much, but I am convinced to go to Guanajuato when we go to Mexico!
I would love to go to Guanajuato some day, especially to know the way of life of its inhabitants. The views that you managed to capture seem great to me.
