Sport photography - western boxing

This might be a little off topic, but how many of us have actually taken the time to appreciate sports photography? Because personally, I am fascinated by this type of photography in particular. It could be maybe because I used to be in this industry but what ever it may be, I think it's amazing how a single photo could already determine the outcome of the whole match/competition/fight/round.

Take for example probably the most iconic photo-ever taken in sports history; Muhammad Ali vs Sonny Liston. May 1965. As he is captured standing over fallen opponent Sonny, with an expression of a champion and a body posture of confidence, that truly is a photo to remember for generations to come.

No doubt, most of sports photography boils down to "luck" as nothing is really "staged or prepared" as it would be during a photo shoot. It could be just the athlete doing some particular at the right moment the photgrapher takes a snap. But to me, it seems to capture an array of emotions (especially in team sports like football for example) From frustration, to anger, joy, glee, and sometimes a candidly captured photo of an athlete having having a funny face on.

I just think that you feel so so much from just looking at sports photos. I too love this picture above during a light sparring session with a former student of mine. It's definitely one of my favorite personal photos to date during my career as a boxing coach.
