The Cut / XPILAR B&W Photography and Art Contest Week #234

This is my entry for the World of XPILAR Black and White Photography and Art Contest – Week 234.

Titled “The Cut,” this photo captures a surreal moment where shadow slices the sky in two. What may look like a digital collage is in fact a real photograph taken by angling my camera just right, using natural light and framing to create the illusion of an inverted mountain or void.

Shot with my Nikon D40 and a 50mm lens, I was drawn to the stark contrast between the jagged edges of the tree line and the softness of the clouds. It feels like a portal, a mirror, or a wound in the sky. For me, this is what black and white photography is all about — simplicity that cuts deep.
