lizards!

There are hatchling, or a little older, fence lizards everywhere right now in the wild-ish areas around East Bay Hills. When I hike into town, they are everywhere along the way when the sun is up. At home, they are all over the place. Most of them will probably not survive to adulthood or even just next year (pretty much the same thing, iirc), based on the number of larger fence lizards.

The only other lizard I have seen hiking in the past month was a sole alligator lizard. I tried to get a photo, but it didn't want to sit still. I am surprised the fence lizard above was as cooperative as it was. There were several others on the ground and I snapped a shot of the fence lizard hatchling in the weeds.
