A Temple For Sun Worshipers

This is not actually a temple for sun worshipers. However, it is a perfect place for one. Sitting on a cliffside overlooking Gokarna Beach in South India. The beaches and surrounding village here are beautiful. At least from far (but far from good as they say).

Unfortunately the culture here seems to be “the world is our trashcan”. Perhaps an unavoidable step in any developing nations progress, and lord knows garbage is just about the only thing some “developed” countries produce (united states). However watching every single person throw their trash on the ground, break their glass bottles of liquor on the beach where children play, literally use the rivers and ocean as a rubbish heap, is pretty disturbing. Watching people go to a place to experience it’s natural beauty and in the process almost deliberately destroying it just makes me sad and confused.

Part of me pretends that it’s a form of large scale demonstration against the corporations that import all this trash in the first place in the form of packaging, (junk “food” wrapped in trash) and really anything made from plastic and shipped here from china. It all breaks two days later and ends up in the river...

They sure have a reason to be protesting after the imperialists destroyed their economy, big ag took all the farm land (and destroyed it in the “green revolution”) and now it’s cheaper to eat packaged “food” wrapped in trash than to eat something grown in their own soil. Which they don’t own and is now laced with poison.

Wait what country am I talking about? Doesn’t really matter, same story everywhere.

I’m in the middle of a bunch of weird life stuff right now and leaving Gokarna for a couple weeks tomorrow, but I’ll be back here for most of the winter and I promise I will be doing more than just bitch about this situation. I have planned a weekly trash pickup and a propaganda campaign. First I need to figure out what to do with the trash I pick up besides just piling it up on the steps of the town hall. (There is no town hall)
