bare rock and black & white cute flightless birds
The rugged, bare rock landscape that makes up the majority of the Antarctic Peninsula and the surrounding Island groups can be dull after some time. With very little to no green in sight, which after a few months down there you do start to miss it greatly and cherish the moment you get back to Patagonia so you can hike through the trees.
However, even though there is a lack of greens and most other colours except for black and white and a little bit of red, which is as a result of the penguins pooping everywhere. They eat a lot of krill and as a result their poo has quite the reddish colour to it ~ a little random fact for you today - I hope you weren't eating when I started talking about poo. Anyhowz, these adorable critters make up for those lack of colours with they hysterical nature and constant bickering behaviour towards one another and anyone else they lock eyes with.
Keep in mind this photo represents a very very small section of a huge breeding colony, which is estimated to be around 50,000 breeding pairs of Chinstrap penguins. As you explore this region you notice their are little groups huddled together, almost like small neighbourhoods that have small "highways" that connect them all with one another and as well as the main highway, which takes them to the ocean for feeding/forgaing. It is quite a unique and amazing little structured community. They are a little smarter than the look and especially more than they smell!!!

Did you take this picture?? That little random fact actually made me laugh. It makes sense tho. Do you remember the burger king Halloween burger with the black die in it? It was turning everyone's poo lime green. lmao
