Visiting Dresden - A Baroque Fairy tale [Blog]

Dresden (view from a bridge into the inner city)

After a period of three months none stop sailing I actually had 2 weeks off. My girlfriend and me went on a small vacation to my home town Dresden. Not only to visit some sights (I actually noticed we would need a month to see it all) but also to see my best friend (and her new born - Yara) and spend some time together.

Of course we did see some of the sights in Dresden and I took some photos here and there.

On the first day went a bit through the town and we visited a mall where I wanted to see this statue from a artist that lifes in Dresden. I do love her work so it is a pleasure to see the sculptures again. You have to see the video I included! And visit the website

Droplets from the fountain

Later that day we visited the "Spitzhaus". This mansion is a restaurant and sits above Dresden. The view is spectacular and you can see the entire city at day or night.

Of course we did visit the Baroque inner city as well :) - This photo includes the Cathedral and the main castle.

Fountains and Baroque buildings are a main part of Dresden. This is another angle of the Cathedral and the castle.

The Semper Opera Housein all its glory (after a rain shower). It is also home to the Semperoper Ballett. The building is located near the Elbe River in the historic centre of Dresden, Germany.

The opera house was originally built by the architect Gottfried Semper in 1841. After a devastating fire in 1869, the opera house was rebuilt, partly again by Semper, and completed in 1878. The opera house has a long history of premieres, including major works by Richard Wagner and Richard Strauss.

Dresden got a lot of small and bigger castle/villas inside the city. This is the Palais in the "Big Garden" in the city. A lovely place to relax.

We also went to Pillnitz - A Baroque castle at the outskirts of Dresden. A wonderful place to stay, walk, chill and just enjoy the beauty of old times. The architecture is exquisit, you'll find a huge park with a pond, great gardens and historic trees!

Pillnitz Palace consists of the Riverside Palace (Wasserpalais) at the river, the parallel Upper Palace (Bergpalais) towards the hills and the linking building New Palace (Neues Palais). The first two were designed by Matthäus Daniel Pöppelmann. The buildings frame the Baroque inner garden; this entire ensemble is surrounded by a park.

Last but not least: every time that I am in Dresden I take a look at my most beloved church - the Cathedral. I am not a Christian but I just like this place and of course always take a photo of the inner of the church. Hope you like it as much as I do.

Sleep well Dresden!

Thanks for following our journey to Dresden! Steem ahead!
