The toxic landscape of Geamana
I took this images while I was passing though Geamana.
Geamana is now an abandoned village in Romania. It was populated until 1978 when the Communist regime evacuated the village to make way for the toxic waste from a nearby copper mining pit.
As the exploitation continues, the lake grows more and more, expanding every year leaving behind the surreal toxic landscape we see today.
The only thing that can be seen today from what was Geamana is a sunken church and a few houses.

Why is it in photography that those sceneries of destruction make for such beautiful pictures ?!

I really don't know. Maybe it's a matter of perception. We, as photographers we train ourselves to see the beauty in everything and maybe that's why we see something beautiful where others see destruction.
Yeah, I guess that's part of the story....
I think through your images here we can also envisage the beauty of nature as it was ~ Unspoilt. The vastness of the landscape. 🦋
You're right! As I said above, it's a matter of perspective, of what we choose to see but yeah, drama has a way of attracting us.

Thanks so much! Be careful when you visit. Due to a lot of photographers that made public the ecological disaster they've put some security guards in place and they tend to be overzealous.

No problem ;) They have a problem with photographers. As long as you hide your gear it should be fine. Depends on the luck. It's a big place. Maybe they won't see you
