Norwegian landscapes: Water strike - few tips (3 photos)

in #photofeed6 years ago

Hello again friends

Today I used a gap in the clouds and between the rains, I went to the nearest nice location to shoot dynamic weather and lighting conditions.

Some nice long exposure works appeared, will be presented some day in future... but also these kind of shots - where I was hunting for water splash against the light of setting sun.

I was doing such shots few times in the past, always with great effect - want to know my settings?

  • Good to have aperture closed - f16, f20 is great - the reason? It will give nice star-alike shapes around the sun and water drops.
  • Shooting against the light source - sun or an artificial light - best effect when the water is lit from behind - looks than like a hot sparks, almost the ones we see above the bonfire.
-Exposure time - most important setting - 1/10 second works great for me, can be little longer - the lines will be longer than because You will catch bigger trail made by water drops in the air. I like 1/10. You can use 1/5, experimenting is a key to success.
  • Manual focus on lens - just set the focus on rocks - using auto focus will take time and You will loose the right moment.
  • Other settings are not so important, no filter required, good to have camera on tripod and shoot using remote shutter release.

Hope You like the effect!

Thanks a lot for "wow" ! :D

This is very cool.
I always use closed aperture because

  1. I don't have ND
  2. Those starry lights are something to die for

True, I recommend to use ND if You will have any possibility, it is great fun with long exposure shots...
And with this stars, not all knows that we have to close aperture to get them :).

Wow epic light in that water splash. Nice work as always!

Thanks a lot :). Happy You like it!
