Hopetoun Shine on the Cover of a Magazine
This photo was my first time being on the cover of a magazine. It was for the December 2016 edition of Australian Photography Magazine, a magazine that I have since written articles for and had features in. And soon will be taking part in editing one of their monthly editions (stay tuned).
The waterfall is Hopetoun Falls in the Otways National Park, Australia. I've been to this waterfall a lot and seen many images of it, so finding a different composition is always a fun challenge. I really liked the way the ferns and log framed the elegant falls and having the sunburst and rays were a bonus that made the image even more special.

No I did not. I always shoot with large prints in mind. The magazine got in touch with me and asked if they could put it on the cover

Dude! This is incredible! The ferns and the mist look so good in this shot. Well done. I imagine you have to lug a pretty heavy-duty tripod around to get the good 1.3 second shots.
You can get long exposures by resting your camera on a log or rock and use a remote shutter or set a 2sec timer. It's the 4min exposures in high wind that the heavy duty, good quality tripod is needed ;)
