Photocircle's Anti-Plagiarism campaign

Dear Steemians!

Last week, we have posted about the project stats where in we showed the quantity of posts that we are receiving through the Photocircle tag. We are glad that a lot of Steemians are getting interested to join our daily contest. The huge numbers are pleasing to look at, however it also come with a huge responsibility, to be aware of the abuse that might come with it.

In the past, we are only receiving submissions that are manageable with the time that we have. And even though we are trying are best to go through each and every submissions by checking its authenticity, still there are cases when a post slip through over our watch. One of which was highlighted by @marjanko in this post, we are of course thankful that it was brought up to our attention.

Having this in mind, we started to discuss on what would be the best approach that the Photocircle will take. And so we are introducing another feature for the bot, the !REPORT! function.

This new feature was made possible through the hard work of @smawkward (in-charge for bot development). It only works on posts that has the @photocirclebot comment on it. Below is the the screenshot of the operation.

The usage of !REPORT! function is not limited to Photocircle team members only, everyone can make a comment and report suspicious account. Upon making the report, it is automatically saved to our database for our review and make necessary actions when proven.

This feature doesn’t replace or rival that of @steemcleaners, we are basically another line of defense against plagiarism. If the suspected content is proven to be a form of plagiarism then we will report it to @steemcleaners and at the same time we will blacklist the author and prevent him/her to join our contests.

Conclusion

We believe that this effort in preventing the abuse to the curation program will be beneficial to the community in the long run. We are a welcoming community, however we also discourage plagiarism. With the current strength that we have, any help in this matter will be a huge relief to the operations of the project. We seek your participation to the program and also to the campaign against plagiarism.
