Is It Truth That Hurts Or The Way We "Spread" It?
I am sure you have probably heard at least once in your life that "truth will set you free," but is that true after all? Or to be more precise with my words, is that accurate or that's just another cliché of modern society and its "figuratives?"
You have no idea how it bothers me when I see people on Facebook or Twitter using memes and quotes that deep inside not only they have no idea what they mean, but they don't even care to take a deeper look into it. However, they will still use them in order to "impress" others of their own "kind."
Someone from my friends list used this meme this morning. I don't know what bothers me more; the fact that he happens to be a terrible liar in his life, or the message (itself) of this meme. How someone (George Carlin that would be) that the lying mass media glorified and worshiped dares to say such a thing to his audience? And how anyone dares to make a statement for "everyone'' on this earth? What kind of arrogance that is?
And the worst part of such statements is that they can't be proven wrong or right through science or Natural Reality (that's a long conversation though). Natural reality btw is something that can't be argued in any way. For example, the sun rises, we breathe in order to survive and so on.
Still, my problem doesn't focus on the person who used this meme or George Carlin's arrogance. Let's pretend that George spoke the universal truth, alright? My question is: Is it truth that hurts as so many "wise idiots" claim, or maybe it's the way we choose to say the truth?
Is it the same to say "Hey, you're ugly, dumb, not on my level, you stink like shit and I despise you with a passion" to someone who asked you out, than to say "Thank you so much, but I have other plans."
And after all what is the truth from a philosophical point of view? I keep hearing people saying that Monica Bellucci is gorgeous and when I see her I see NOTHING. So who's saying the truth in this case? Me or them? Is there a universal truth for things after all? And if it does, does that mean that every man is ready to dig it? Or maybe by truth in the 21st century we define the nerve of someone to be rude without feeling any kind of guilt whatsoever?

Brother George made a career out of being abrasive; that was his whole schtick. That said, like the court jesters of times long gone by, comedians of today tend to be those most able to "speak the truth" about matters most people would rather not look at.
But what is "truth?"

I suppose the truth in question here is the "truth" of wanting to turn a blind eye to something toxic or destructive, rather than face it head on.
Hmmm, not sure that this is the case. Maybe it's the way you see it. I just happen to believe that truth should NEVER hurt anyone as we all know it deep inside. I believe that many people take advantage of telling the "truth" with a totally rude and unacceptable way, only so they can hurt others. The truth should NEVER ever offend anyone!
Yeah, I see your point about the "truth setting you free" being bullshit - because in your case you are far too attached to your slavery for anything to set you free :-)

PS. Most of us are slaves to something. I've picked being slave to love :-)
I think both can hurt. Some people get hurt if they are insulted and focus more in the insult that in the truth. Some people, completely block the truth in order to avoid being hurt by it.
No truth should insult in my opinion (depending on how shameful our actions are of course)
