RE: Stuck in a Pleasure Trap to Escape Facing Pain in Ourselves or the World

in #philosophy6 years ago

A few things:

  • Most people were raised by dysfunctional parents who didn't teach us how to handle pain or discomfort, so most people run from any pain, whether it be physical or emotional.

  • Most people live in a state of fear.
If we experienced a lot of trauma as children (even as adults), we end up getting PTSD & if we don't get rid of the affects of that trauma, we will be forever in a loop where we are afraid of pain.
If one lives in a state of fear, they can't be open to change, open to growing, seeking the truth, etc.

  • In fact society is mainly to blame for a lot of this.
If someone is ever emotionally sick, they are looked down upon or judged, & words like "crazy," "sensitive," and "nuts" are thrown around.
Of course this is also due to the fact that many years ago (even still today), people were thrown into mental wards at the drop of a hat or because they didn't do as they were told by their husband, they knew a secret that had to be kept hidden, or a family member did it to get their hands on their money.

  • Most people live in a state of denial because they have been taught (usually from religion) that we have NO control over our lives. That the pie in the sky gawd controls everything & we are just MINDLESS puppets.
Since we weren't taught how to make the tools of the Universe work in our favor, we usually run around like chickens with our heads cut off trying to get the happy life we know we should have, but is always just beyond our grasp.

Then there's the group of people who believe one can NEVER be happy. That's how sad they are.

Like others have said, balance is key. I don't believe in the adage "no pain no gain," although it is true that we tend to learn more when we hit rock bottom.

If there is no gain in life (love, learning, connection with other humans, connection to the earth, clean water, animals, our spirit, etc.), that's when the disconnect happens & people get depressed & want to end it.

First we need to learn how to love & respect ourselves, & then learn the tools that help us in life.

Thanks for the article @krnel - do you mind sending me that script that you have at the bottom of every one of your articles?

It would be much appreciated.
