Sympathetic Resonance is fascinating to me

in #philosophy8 years ago (edited)

Sympathetic resonance is an amazing phenomenon. A musical note played out in the open will send reverberating waves that bring it to life any resonating object of a matching tone; further propelling the sound just as a lense spreads the light through a telescope.

The measure of sound in Decibels will be greature than the sum of its parts, suggesting a surplus of energy of some sort during the activity of resonance.

Can it be harnessed as a source of energy?

If I can pluck one tune on my guitar and send ripples of sympathetic resonance across the air to a million tuning forks, which will sing out with reverberations at decibels that would surely rattle the spring and flywheels of a mildly sensitive electric generator, producing enough kinetic energy to charge batteries and light homes?

Could sympathetic resonance explain the feeling of energy when two people find common connection with each other? Could the power of human resonance be demonstrated by something as simple as the strings of a guitar,

or tuning forks:

Wikipedia: Sympathetic resonance or sympathetic vibration is a harmonic phenomenon wherein a formerly passive string or vibratory body responds to external vibrations to which it has a harmonic likeness. The classic example is demonstrated with two similar tuning-forks of which one is mounted on a wooden box, then muted, the un-struck mounted fork will be heard. In similar fashion, strings will respond to the external vibrations of a tuning-fork when sufficient harmonic relations exist between the respective vibratory modes. A unison or octave will provoke the largest response as there is maximum likeness in vibratory motion. Other links through shared resonances occur at the fifth and, though with much less effect, at the major third. The principle of sympathetic resonance has been applied in musical instruments from many cultures and times. Apart from the basic principle at work on instruments with many undamped strings, such as harps, guitars and pianos with the dampers raised, other instruments are fitted with extra choirs of sympathetic strings, which respond with a silvery halo to the tones played on the main strings. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sympathetic_resonance

This is how a radio works. Examine the work on Nikola Tesla he wanted to transmit power without wires. It can be done it is however quite inefficient as losses are distributed in 3 dimensions as opposed to a single dimension over a wire. Engineering response to a philosophical debate.
