Silence can speak volumes to the inner you...

How often do you simply switch off. Tune out. Shut down. Not that often I would guess; Who has the time to do so with the hectic lives we lead, the hustle and bustle of modern society, work pressures, family and life in general? There never seems to be enough time in the day to accomplish the endless list of things we have to do and if there is some time left over we often fill it in a bid to be productive and create more time for other things...And so it goes.

My wife and are no different; We lead busy professional lives, have a multitude of hobbies and activities that take up a lot of our time and are always on the run trying to get life under some semblance of control. We do a good job mostly and seem to have the knack of balancing it all, somewhat precariously, and making it work. We think so anyway.

However, a large part of the process of making it all work for us is the time in which we shut off completely; Not from our lives, but from the outside world; The noise. It's an important time of quiet reflection and a time to think about what we are grateful for. We both do it sometimes together and sometimes individually depending on commitments. We retreat to a special place in our home, open the window to the fresh air and just sit quietly with our thoughts enjoying the view and the silence. We are both similar in that we value the sound of silence so we rarely speak; Rather we sit in contemplation and re-centre our thoughts becoming completely immersed in the moment. It's like a meditation of sorts.

We focus our energy on presence, being 100 percent present, in our lives no matter what we are doing, and this reset is an integral part of that process. It puts everything in our lives into perspective, allows us to see with great clarity and focus and energises our spirits. It's a valuable and non-negotiable part of our lives which happens weekly.

Life is fast-paced, overly complicated and stressful these days, I think everyone would agree with that, however to find some quiet moments in which to put life on hold and enjoy a little sacred selfishness is valuable and in our opinion incredibly important in maintaining a positive and productive attitude. Showing gratitude for the good in your life is always a great place to start and packaging up all the pressures of life and putting them aside for even a few short moments will pay dividends later. It's amazing what the sound of silent reflection can tell the inner you if only you allow yourself to hear it.

I know exactly what you mean and value the deload time throughout the week as a sacred ritual. To be engaged fully with the world at all waking moments is a fast track to burn out and system failure. The times of no action, but full observation of where one is in the world is a must!

Wish I had a whale vote to give on this one mate. Great write up!

It is great thing to switch off from the hectic world.

100% agreed. I'm a huge fan of shutting off, shutting out all the extraneous noise in the world and just focus on being.

So pleased you like ketchup :)

Makes a lot of sense to me mate. The sound of silence is golden for sure. I have to have these moments to, some me time to drown out all the madness and get back to myself so I can refocus 100% on making life work.

Hope you guys had a good evening and are sleeping well
