Even when I was young, I wondered where thoughts came from - why I couldn't "pre-think" a thought so that I'd know that it was "my thought". Later discovered that thoughts are considered a sixth sense by most eastern philosophies. Not in any mystical sense, just that mental constructs are another sense-input - we cannot pre-think, therefore, we are at best an observer. Hence, with or without drugs, follow the hole, not the rabbit!

Sounds spot on. Just like excitement and anxiety is on the same coin. Nice breakthrough 😃

Interesting observation. Though I'm still on the fence as to whether DMT is actually as good in the long term (psychedelic/spiritual experiences had through self-initiated efforts are most safe and rewarding while playing the long game), this is quite a valid viewpoint from a theoretical standpoint.

Now another point for consideration (but one that may or may not find leverage, given that the only solid, grounded-in-reality part of this is that it's an Eastern philosophy); an ego trip is a self-imposed 'hallucination', as you put it, and one that results in the subject only seeing things a certain way. However, not every mind is directly capable of understanding perceived realities from a mobile, flexible, dynamic standpoint. For a great many people, even the most 'open-minded' of them, there can be found a certain rigidity in their view of the world, because they depend on it to be able to feel like they can 'rely on reality'. So in a lot of ways, even the average human being is technically viewing things from one specific way or set of ways. A state, albeit, still better than one in which the ego has taken control, but still limited in and of itself, and in a way, a 'lessened' ego trip. Or sojourn, more like. Detaching from the ego is a difficult process, and not many can (without expending tremendous, tiring effort). A philosophy like "God = Man - Ego" comes to mind here.

Now onto the more mystical elements of the psychedelic experiences themselves; it is said that everything that exists that may be perceived, is simply the construct of those that exist with and within it. It's a complicated concept to explain, but it's a bit like that phrase used in the bible, "The father is in me and I in the father." That is to say that everything in the universe (and the multiverse in general) is ultimately the product of those within it. While I'm still on a quest to divine the exact science of this, my running theory is that of a hierarchic set of tiers of existence, each with its own 'version' of people, corresponding to those on the other tiers (a bit like in the DC-verse), and those at the higher tiers exercise the greater degree of control over said creation and manifestation, and those below exert less of it (like whales, dolphins and minnows, with something I would analogize to gravity being the epicenter of the amount of influence each channels). So...in a way, even the supposed reality one ought to focus on as opposed to the version of it experienced during an ego trip or hallucination might be an illusion of its own.

Just a thought.

And of course, all this is mostly hypothetical (and in ways, semantic) when speaking from this plane of existence.

Interesting indeed.

"Perhaps an "ego trip" is even more dangerous because of it's lack of psychedelic hallucinations."

This is something I agree with, and gives a whole meaning that it's "all in your head". Psychadelic trips are much like wearing rose-colored sunglasses, but during an Ego Trip, you can't see the tint. When it comes to riding out a trip, recent lessons and environment definitely come into play. Sometimes a trip is so intensely felt, that the experiencer will not be pulled towards realization regardless of what's happening around them. This brain food, is pretty delicious :D

@shello

The worst trips are the ones we don't even know we took.

It gets better when we realize!
