Did you know? Pinoy Facts #2

Hello Steemians! Another time to share facts about Filipinos. I'll post Pinoy traditions or hobbies as many as I can so that you will have an idea why we are like this or like that. :)

Fact#2:
Did you know that Filipino parents usually disciplined their children using the items below:

You read it right! When their child disobeyed them, they use the items below and hit a part of them but not too hard and usually, parents are hitting the ass of their child cause its skin is thick. It's a reminder that they did something wrong and parents let them feel the pain so that they will not do it next time.

Since I'm from 90's kids, I experienced being hit by what we call "walis tingting" in Filipino. Its a broomstick made from coconut midribs. Kids from 80's and below experienced a difficult type of being disciplined. Below are some examples:

  1. Kneeling on rock salt or mung bean for an hour or more
  2. Hanging up-side-down

But I think the second option is just to scare the kids. In Filipino, when our moms are mad, they will say "gusto mo ibitin kita ng patiwarik?!" hehe that's the term from #2. I don't even know if their moms/dads are really doing that. :D

Nowadays, Pinoy parents are not the same as before. They use other methods to disciple their child in a psychological way like facing the wall for a long period, not letting them play the tablet/ipad/smart phones or even not letting them play outside. It's better than before because they will not hurt their child but in some cases, its not working specially for those hard headed kids. :D

PS: I just searched google for the photos I posted here. I did not create it but the contents is all original from my words.
