Kukeri - the people behind scary masks who dance with around and through the flames to drive evil spirits, demons and sickness away. Traditionally it happens on the weekend before Easter fasting begins but due to the diminishing number of people who practice it, participants nowadays get organized in travelling groups and visit a number of winter festivals for a couple of months.

Once there were only male kukeri but the case is no more the same since tradition gets carried on by all those who would carry it on.

Meet the bear and her bearly mentor - my entry for the weekly contest of @worldcapture:

Again, I invite @lightcaptured who has a lot on the topic to join the contest although he might choose something else.

Awesome capture!!

Awesome capture and wonderful story. We also have these people who follow this tradition of scaring demons and evil away and we call it "phiri", where they go round a place wispering matras and blowing horns.
