Paying It Forward - Small SP Delegation HERE!

in #payitforward6 years ago (edited)

Yesterday I won about 70 SP delegation for 9 days and I thought long and hard what good I could do with it. Well, actually I thought about it for two minutes (that is long for me) before I made my decision and one and a half minutes of that was about food. What can I say, I'm an impulsive person. Just a little.

I decided to write more and comment more. And I try to upvote more accounts that don't have a lot of SP, posts that don't have that much upvotes and generally try to do more to accounts and people who have less than I have here.

In addition I decided that I will delegate some of my SP to accounts that are low on resources because they are new here. I have 197 + 72 - 80 SP and approx 397,000 VESTS, so I'm not that wealthy, but I'm in no trouble if I delegate part of my SP to smaller accounts. Even if I leave the delegations for few days longer than the @googlyprize amount was, I'll be alright. I can still write blog posts and comments without the fear of draining my resource credits entirely. You know, the thing that smaller account struggle with.

So I'm paying it forward to accounts that are smaller than I am, so they could use it and grow a bit faster. But only that much that I won't immobilize myself completely. And after a week or so, I start the process of thinking of taking it back. Or maybe I start the idea of a meeting with my self where I could start the process of thinking of taking the delegation back.

I wont be delegating large amounts. Just 10 SP each. If you have someone in mind who I could delegate, please comment and I'll check the account. And yes, you can even ask the delegation to yourself, if you have less power than I have. --> https://steemd.com/@insaneworks

My criteria for the account is:

  • Less power, SP, VESTS than I have. Rep 25-49.
  • The account hasn't delegated any of it's SP away.
  • Relatively active: has posted something (comments count) in the last 7 days.
  • No plagiarism or spamming.
  • Writes mostly in English (tai suomeksi)

This is not that important:

  • Good intentions count more than long texts or high quality.
  • Selfvotes. I think selfvoting is short-sighted, but if the account has chosen to do that, it's fine by me. @dustbunny won't upvote though.

What will I do?

  • Pick few random accounts anywhere I can find.
  • Delgate 10 SP.
  • Comment to the chosen accounts what I've done and why, in case they don't want or need my 10 SP delegation and hopefully inform me.
  • Hope they will interact with people more so that they can grow faster.
  • Hope they will write at least one blog post during this 1-2 weeks so that I can upvote and comment on it. I might even upvote comments made to other peoples posts if I have enough voting power.
  • Hope that someone else (you who are reading this right now) checks these accounts too, comments and upvotes those accounts posts and maybe some of their comments.
  • When the day comes that I decide to undelegate, I will probably do that gradually.

What I hope the account does?

  • Normal activity: keep posting, commenting and upvoting here in Steemit.
  • And I'd rather like the account I've delegated some SP upvote and comment on any other accounts posts than mine at this 1 to 2 week delegation time. It's like: "Go and have fun, meet new people, don't spend it all at once and I wish I could do more!" -thing.

My upvote is small, but I got my (and your) back covered. @dustsweeper unfortunately only upvotes on dust given to me, but @dustbunny upvotes also dust I've given. Additionally I will add the accounts I've chosen on @jokinmenipieleen and @worksinsane's SteemAuto fanbase for now. 100% upvotes from those accounts aren't that big either, but I hope it's the good intentions that count also on my ideas and actions.

I'll add the accounts I choose to the comments. So if you have time, go and check those accounts and help them grow by upvoting them and commenting if you think they deserve it. Maybe even resteem their posts if they are really good!

Paying it forward!

I admire your thoughtfulness toward others. Sadly, your current stake is too small, barely 1 cent for a 100% vote. I suggest you refrain from delegating to others so you don't drain your vote's worth to nothing. Instead, I will delegate to you 5000 SP for a month, bringing you to 30 cents at 100% vote, so make the best of it in curating yourself and others.

Long live the goolyeyes 👀

Thank you and THANK YOU! :) :) :)
What a wonderful surprise!
I've been sick (common flu) for a while and instead of irritating people around me at work, I've been doing insane stuff and rampaging all around here in Steemit. :D And I finally got a bit more sleep last night (not so much coughing anymore) and woke up to see this! So thank you again.

I knew my current stake (few hours ago), the upvote normally equals shit on it's own. That's why I try to do more than just upvote people. And trust in @dustbunny and @dustsweeper.

About my delegations: my thoughts were that I delegate that 10 SP to no more than 3 people at a time. And after about 1 week I will gradually take that away so that it won't be a nasty surprise to wake up one morning. I think with a bit of an effort and a small delegation from me, it's fairly easy to grow from rep 25 to 30 or more, or from 35 to 40.

And at the same time it's a way for me to force myself to interact more with people as I'm pretty lousy at small talk (in the real world) or participating to contest that has more than 2 rules. So all hail @googlyeyes!

With your delegated SP I've been throwing around sixes (20% --> 0.006) all morning and plan on continuing that as much as I can. I curious to see how many upvotes that is until about 80% of voting power remains. I have to check steemd every once in a while. A six here and a six there makes 666 everywhere!

I sure could vote myself or my other accounts and that way make myself stronger, but I try to live as I think I think (yes, double I think) and say to others that giving upvotes and commenting others is wiser by long-term because with good comments more people notice, and perhaps upvote later too. After I no longer have your delegated SP.

So I'll try my best, let's see where that get's me during this month. So thank you gain.

P.S.
I had to google: "curved sword that pirates use" because I was just wondering what's it called and why use curved sword. Well, now I know. A cutlass.

Hey, @insaneworks. That's a cool idea. I think drakos has it right, and it looks like he's followed through with his delegation, so congratulations on that. It's obviously up to you, and the idea of helping others even when you don't have a lot yourself is great. Do what you got to do, but you can probably help red fish for a month more with the larger SP by upvoting their work. :)

Thank you! :)

I try to upvote more people who have less than I have here in Steemit, comment and upvote their posts, but it seems that I've stumbled more to those people who for instance have more SP and a bigger rep than I. And I've been commenting on their blog posts so much that I don't have time for those who I really should be commenting more.

But I am going to change that. I will try to find more smaller accounts and next time I have time to rampage here in Steemit, I will make that happen what I always intended to do.

And if they don't have enough RC for commenting, I will do something about that so that they can post and get upvotes.

Sounds good. I would just throw it out there that what you've been doing is good too. I mean, reading and commenting and showing support for all good content is the idea, right? There's plenty of need to go around. Everyone within the lower creatures, to which I would add smaller dolphins, as well, all need some form of support. Larger dolphins and orcas tend to have their support systems in place, but then, they might actually have some SP to upvote comments you make. So, I'd like to strike a balance of that, myself. Still working on it. As you've experienced, it's tricky!

On smaller accounts I try to upvote also if the intentions are good, not only especially good content. But of course I don't upvote text that I don't understand or if it's just bad.

Yes, I know. The balance in supporting, but also trying to grow at the same time. Tricky.

We do seem to have quite a few users here where there English isn't quite there yet. Some of them do remarkably well, anyway. I like to give people leeway in some cases if the basic premise of their post is good and they support it well, that's really the main thing. If the spelling and grammar are off here and there—native speakers do that.

But it's like you said—if you can't hardly read it at all or make out what they want to say, then it's best to move on.

And the fact that we have apps that encourage to leave short posts: dmania, dlike, Steepshot... Now I do understand why it's vital to have that kind of apps and posts when we are thinking about the growth of Steemit in general. It's a good thing. More different kind of users mean more users generally.

But that doesn't mean that I like to read or look at one liner posts all the time. And it again doesn't mean that I don't enjoy memes because I do. And I also do enjoy excellent photography. Or a picture that isn't that good but has a certain witty point in it. But I do not follow the kind of accounts that only post memes. Or only post links to other peoples content, or one link. One linkers. I made that up just now! :D

I made a longer comment but realized that this what I wrote would be better in a blog post. :)

No worries. I'm thinking frequently I probably should write a post about something rather than leaving it all in a comment. Then, I generally do it in a comment the next time, anyway. :)

dMania and now dlike are two I have trouble with, simply because it's mostly sharing what was found somewhere else. I suppose that has some value to it, but the value of it isn't meant to be hundreds in rewards like dMania was giving to some accounts. I'm not sure if they still are or not. Like you, I don't follow anyone who does strictly memes.

Those are fine. They can be really creative. Better if the person posting actually created them, but that's not the case. It's finding something out on the internet and posting it.

Personally, I don't think that kind of thing needs to be tokenized, but I will resign myself to its inevitability. I don't think everyone has to be a content creator. We may have to adjust incentives, but we could stand to have quite a bit more consumers, who mainly look at the good stuff there is. Right now, it's more like everyone creates, but fewer curate. Needs to be the other way around, or at least closer to equal.

What a nice thing to do! I will share your post so more people may see it.

Thank you. :)

Awesome initiative. I'm always happy to come across Steemians that do seem to care and are taking action. That's the pay it forward mentality which used to be the norm a couple of months ago.

Thanks for caring!

Glad to see someone glad. :)

It's just the thought that if I would have started now. I would have drained my resources empty right away and being an impulsive and impatient person, may have not come back if I couldn't comment and write blog posts when I like.

That's definitely happenign to me. On the other hand im foreced to think about what i do here. But it is frustrating for sure

Everything you do takes away bit of your resources. Following, unfollowing, resteeming and so on.

If I were you, I would resteem less and post more the kind of posts that give people more general idea of who you are or what you think about things. Instead of resteeming, next time when you have enough RC and mana, try making a post about those blogposts that you'd like to resteem. Choose couple that you like and add few words why you chose those blog posts.

I'll check on you later what you've done and after I've started to reduce the amount of delegation to the accounts I've already delegated some SP.

So after you've recovered, do an introduction post. That always gets lots or at least few comments and upvotes, depending on how awesome that post is. Use tags: introduceyourself and introducemyself in it.

Great idea @insaneworks. It's nice to see people trying to help others out.

Thank you. I try. As much as I can. :)

Very generous of you to share the little you have yourself! I hope others will follow your example.

Normally the SP I have and will have after a month, is still under 0.01 even at 100% so I thought that with almost 200 sp it would be wiser to delegate 10 SP to few than to only upvote them. And delegating 10 SP to few wouldn't kill me. But now of course (that I got a delegation from a bigger delegator for a month) I can also upvote with bigger upvotes and don't have to rely on @dustbunny to upvote the rest, so that the person who I upvote gets the reward.

I'm exited to see how much I can grow and where I will be after one month. :)

Good thinking!

Check out @blissfish which will give people a 100% upvote if you win the round. You can enter people into the contest every 2.5 hours. There aren't that many entries at the moment because it just opened so you have a good chance of getting a 100% upvote.

Thank you for the info. I'll check it out. :)

Nice way to pay it forward @insaneworks... I think you should go check the #payitforward too.. there're some featured bloggers on the @pifc contest who probably needs that 10 SP too.

Thank you for the info. I will check it out. :)

Ahh.. I'm a newbie and not eligible for this, hope that you choose the best blogger

This is not a contest, I just decide to delegate or not, that simple. Why do you think you would not be eligible?

I just joined yesterday 😊 and I don't know whether I could post everyday in english.. because my native tongue is not english.

Neither is my native language English. :) I would rather write in Finnish. I haven't used properly English for some time before I joined here. And I was really struggling with it at first. But I used google translator and free web dictionaries and gradually writing here got easier and easier. At first I had to check how to write the words almost every time I wrote something. Now I don't do that so often.

You don't have to post every day in English. I won't upvote those post that I don't understand, but that doesn't mean that others wouldn't. And me delagating you some SP only gives you the means to grow a bit faster. That means upvoting and commenting on other peoples post and making your own posts. My delegation only gives you more resources so that it's a bit easier for you.

I see you already have couple of people you know here in Steemit (and maybe outside Steemit also) so you have excellent possibilities to grow. I assume @dipoabasch might have hinted about this SP delegation possibility and that's a good thing if he did. :)

Since you seem honest and I haven't got a huge line eager to get my small SP delegation, you are an excellent target for my delegation.

Remember, It's only for 1 to 2 weeks so make the most of it and use it wisely. So that your account can grow with it as much as possible. Editing, deleting and everything you do here costs something to you in mana so use it wisely.
Here you can see what I mean: https://steemd.com/@pehteem

You have now 10 SP more. :)

Do not upvote this comment and answer to this only if you think it's absolutely necessary. You are low on resources even after my 10 SP delegation.

Well.. thank you for this encouraging reply 😊 I'll do my best to be free of using my RC, I think my upvote won't mean anything on other.. but cici said, commenting would give some profitable payouts later.. to gain the SP.

So you are from Finlandia? Aahh... cici is from Aceh and I think she really likes to talk about "Helsinki" nit because she's been there but to refer to a peace agreement between our country government with the free Aceh movement in 2005. I wonder.. if I create a long comment like a post like you did.. will it cost more RC as I put a short comment on others?

Loading...

Upvoting occasionally posts that will give pay you for curating after 7 days is okay, but as that also takes RC, then commenting to different people is wiser and an investment for your future here. Because of comments other people see you here better.

Yes I'm from cold Finland. :D Although it's not that cold now. It's exceptionally warm October now, but the winter is coming so let's hope for lots and lots of snow. It's always nice to hear if someone has visited Finland. :) And I'm gland that the Aceh peace agreement was achieved 13 years ago.

I tested how much short and a long comment take RC / mana with my worksinsane account. It seems that the longer comment you leave, the more mana it takes which is logical but unfair to smaller accounts. Try not to leave too short comments and maybe no pictures in comments.

Thanks again.. though it's hard for me to leave a really short reply 😆 well.. at least I'll keep it at 100 characters minimum.. no photos or meme on comments too 👍 okay I'll keep it in mym mind.
