Building A Christ Like Family Is Truly A Family Effort - Magnificent Family

One of the other things we got to do besides spend lots of quality time together, was sit down as siblings with my parents, to discuss how we will deal with issues that arise amongst cousins. For example, if one of our kids is fighting with another, or manifesting a behavior or attitude that is not correct, how will we address this?
We all gave each other permission to correct one another’s kids. But we also agreed on the method and the manner, as well as the values that are important to all of us that we will enforce as a team. If anyone of us is present when we see something that needs to be corrected and the actual parent is not around, we will lovingly but firmly tell the child that what they are doing is wrong and we will explain why. We will not humiliate or shame each other’s kids, but we will not let them get away with un-Christlike behaviors and attitudes. Then we will report back to the parent of the child so they can follow up with discipleship and discipline, if necessary.
Furthermore, if we see a parenting issue in any of us as siblings, we will also point this out in a constructive and helpful way, by providing advice. Then of course we all committed to be humble and receive the input of others.
Why? The ultimate goal is that we will raise the children to be Christ-like, and that we ourselves will model Christ-likeness, too, as parents, aunts, uncles, and for my mom and dad, as grandparents. It was a very healthy discussion where no one felt judged, and there was the assurance that we love one another and love each other’s kids.
