5 Tips for amateur photographers (novice level) / 5 Consejos para aficionados a la fotografía (nivel novato)

Hi everyone! How are you? Today I want to give you 5 tips on how to improve in photography those who are beginning in this world. These tips are not taken from the Internet, are the techniques and philosophies that I have applied in my photographic life to improve my vision when shooting with my camera.

Hola todos ¿Cómo están? Hoy quiero darles 5 consejos sobre cómo mejorar en la fotografía a los que están comenzando en este mundo. Estos consejos no son sacados de Internet, son las técnicas y filosofías que en mi vida fotográfica he aplicado para poder mejorar mi visión a la hora de disparar con mi cámara.

1. Use the rule of thirds with your camera.

The rule of thirds is a form of composition for ordering objects within the image. This rule divides an image into nine different parts using two imaginary lines that are parallel and horizontally xspaced and two more of the same characteristics vertically, it is recommended to use the points of intersection of these lines to distribute the objects of the scene.

Almost all cameras have this option to apply it on your screen, most smartphones also have it, and if you have one that can not, you can download it. Use the rule of thirds until you can see the lines without seeing through the camera. Only by applying this rule, your photos will begin to take another breath.

This rule applies a lot in landscape and portrait photography, but my advice is that you apply it in all your photos until you master it and after you master it; break it. Photography as any other art does not have irremovable rules and the key is to break them with style.

1. Utiliza la regla de tercios con tu cámara.

La regla de los tercios es una forma de composición para ordenar objetos dentro de la imagen. Esta regla divide una imagen en nueve partes diferentes utilizando dos líneas imaginarias paralelas y equiespaciadas de forma horizontal y dos más de las mismas características de forma vertical, se recomienda utilizar los puntos de intersección de estas líneas para distribuir los objetos de la escena.

Casi todas las cámaras tienen esta opción para aplicarla en su pantalla, la mayoría de los teléfonos inteligentes también la tienen, y si posees uno que no, puedes descargarla. Utiliza la regla de tercios hasta que puedas ver las líneas sin ver por medio de la cámara. Solo aplicando esta regla, tus fotos ya empezaran a tomar otro aire.
Esta regla se aplica mucho en la fotografía de paisaje y retrato, pero mi consejo es que la apliques en todas tus fotos hasta que la domines y luego de que la domines; rómpela. La fotografía como cualquier otro arte no tiene reglas inamovibles y la clave es romperlas con estilo.

2. See works of professional photographers.

I want to start this advice by quoting Quentin Tarantino "Stealing all the films that have been made. The great artists steal, they do not make tributes."

To have a faster growth in photography, you must consume many photographic works of professionals or also of great painters, in general consume all kinds of visual art carefully. The objective of this council is to take the best of the great artists to fine tune the photographic eye and good taste.

2. Ve trabajos de fotógrafos profesionales.

Quiero comenzar este consejo citando a Quentin Tarantino “Robo de todas las películas que se han hecho. Los grandes artistas roban, no hacen homenajes.”

Para tener un crecimiento más veloz en la fotografía se debe consumir muchos trabajos fotográficos de profesionales o también de grandes pintores, en general consumir todo tipo de arte visual con detenimiento. El objetivo de este consejo es tomar lo mejor de los grandes artistas para poder afinar el ojo fotográfico y el buen gusto.

3. Start by taking easy photos to make.

When you first start in this world of photography, we imagine taking fantastic photos, stunning faces or wonderful countries but the reality is that, although one could be a professional photographer, sometimes it's hard to get these great photos and will be harder if you are a novice . What I personally think is that photography is like the search for a treasure, anyone can get it, but those who know how to find it will have more opportunity to get it. My point is that you start photographing simple but beautiful things by themselves, like a sunrise, nature or very photogenic people and so, start dominating the simple and then go to the complex as street photography or portraits at mid-day.

3. Comienza tomando fotos fáciles de realizar.

Cuando se comienza en este mundo de la fotografía, nos imaginamos tomando fotos fantásticas, rostros imponentes o países maravillosos pero la realidad es que, aunque uno sea un fotógrafo profesional, a veces cuesta conseguir estas fotos geniales y más va a costar si eres un novato. Lo que yo personalmente pienso es que la fotografía es como la búsqueda de un tesoro, cualquiera puede conseguirlo, pero los que lo saben buscar tendrán más oportunidad de encontrarlo, así es la fotografía. Mi punto es que empieces fotografiando cosas sencillas pero bellas por sí mismas, como un amanecer, la naturaleza o personas muy fotogénicas y así, empezar dominando lo sencillo para luego ir a lo complejo como fotografía de calle o hacer retratos a pleno medio día.

4. Start playing with photoshop.

Some people find this part more fun than taking the same photo, the editing programs will be our best friends in this world as adobe photoshop or adobe lightroom (this program is special for photography). My advice is that apart from watching many tutorials on the Internet about how to edit your photographs on your own, start playing with the options of these programs as a child with a new toy, doing this I assure you that you will get very interesting results.

4. Empieza a jugar con photoshop.

A algunas personas esta parte les parece más divertida que tomar la misma foto, los programas de edición serán nuestros mejores amigos en este mundo como adobe photoshop o adobe lightroom (este programa es especial para fotografía). Mi consejo es que aparte de ver muchos tutoriales en Internet acerca de cómo editar tus fotografías por cuenta propia, comiences a jugar con las opciones de estos programas como un niño con un nuevo juguete, haciendo esto te aseguro que conseguirás resultados muy interesantes.

5. Get inspired

Well this is the simplest and most important advice, you will not get good photographs if you can not imagine them first, so it is important that when you start in this world you consume a lot of all the arts and let's be honest with ourselves about what things we want to photograph. Personally, I was inspired by a page that uploaded street photos of my hometown (Barquisimeto), and as soon as I started studying I already knew what kind of photography I was going to adopt. In conclusion, you have to take time to appreciate the art, stop to admire a sunset, listen to a song carefully, look at a movie with caution, but most importantly take some time to understand what your heart wants.

5. Inspírate

Bueno este es el consejo más sencillo y más importante, no vas a lograr fotografías buenas si primero no puedes imaginarlas, por eso es importante que al comenzar en este mundo se consuma mucho de todas las artes y seamos sinceros con nosotros mismo sobre qué cosas queremos fotografiar. Yo en lo personal fui inspirado por una página que subía fotos callejeras de mi ciudad natal (Barquisimeto), y apenas comencé a estudiar ya sabía qué tipo de fotografía iba a adoptar. En conclusión, tienes que darte tiempo para apreciar el arte, detenerte para admirar un atardecer, escuchar una canción atentamente, mirar con cautela una película, pero lo más importante tomarte un tiempo para entender qué quiere tu corazón.
