It's a beautiful holiday on 5 December, it's right to celebrate the poorest through gifts.
In theory we do it at Christmas, because hypocritically at this time we Italians are all kinder and help the needy in our neighbourhood and then we forget about it for the whole year.
I think the Christmas season is nice when you have small children, because we parents try to make it special just for them.
Then the kids grow up and the magic wears off, but I still decorate the house🤭 and keep some Christmas atmosphere, because in the end what matters is finding/creating the opportunity to have a good time as a family, with lots of talk and also good traditional Christmas food.😜
P.S. Sorry to hear about your son's cat, I hope it's nothing serious.

I notice too that some of the elder children don't longer care too much but I believe a bit of decoration, burning candles, hot chocolate and watching old films creates a good atmosphere plus it is how we build memories which for sure will be remembered same for the presents and the snacks.
The cat didn't eat and drink for two days, so it's raw egg plus some wet foor instead of the dry catfood. This morning i found him in a vetbed he always refused to sleep in (strange).
After 1 hour I heard him as I asked my son if the cat was still around he said he was lying underneath his closet. Turned out he had wet the vetbed (pee of 24 hours?) He looks a bit better today so I hope it will continue since I am leaving on Wednesday and he will be home alone (he mainly sleeps in a box).
