Triple, double and single yolk eggs.
I read on alot of posts and forums about chickens and egg production. How to get more eggs in the winter.
My thoughts on this are not the same as most, it would appear.
Why not let chickens run their normal cycle?
Winter is a time for rest.
Some suggestions are to increase length of days with artificial light. Feed them extra calcium to keep them producing shells.
We live off grid, and do not use artificial light unless we have to. The same with our animals.
Winter is the down time, the time to rest, the time for self care. It applies to all that dwell in this cycle. Plants, trees, animals and HUMANS.
We take care of reach other here. Even the chickens take care of us, as we take care of them. We have yet to go hungry, or lack the eggs we need.
Today Ethel is indoors because she dipped her butt into the water trough, and at -30 it froze pretty fast. We will get her defrosted in front of the woodstove, bathed... and tuck her into the coop tonight when she is dry.
Around here, you just never know what the day will bring.

The girls give me triple yolkers maybe 6 or 7 a season. I often get double yolkers from my older gals.

Yay ... even Triple! We were excited even to get double. More than single seems to occur more often before it gets too cold and before they start to rest for the winter. Kudos to you for respecting their natural cycle and let them rest!
Thank you! Surprisingly we still get 5-7eggs a day all winter. So we are pretty lucky.
