We moved to Alaska to escape the rat race. I took a job working at a remote gold mine where I worked two weeks at the mine and have two weeks off. We bought a piece of property on an island in southeast Alaska with a small cabin on it. On my off time we are preparing the land so we can live there full time. August of 2017 I plan on quieting my job and making the move to becoming a full time homesteader. We started documenting our journey to keep as a video journal. More and more people started watching so know we try to make the videos a little more entertaining. This is our journey, we hope you enjoy it.
Very very cool @myalaskadream! I would love to get to a point in life where I can begin to be self-sufficient like that. I'll follow you and wait for more videos and posts from you - seems like it'll be a helluva ride. Cheers.

Hey it's more than I'm doing. I'm just Joe Schmo watching 'Life Below Zero', 'Alaska The Last Frontier' and YouTubers like yourself...while living in FL and working in 'the system'. One day though.....I hope to gain enough skills to own my own place, farm, raise chickens and be as off-the-grid as possible.
Planning is the first step. We started planning about 10 years before we made the move. Keep working towards the end result and it will happen.
