Mr.Robot: Hello Friend.

in OCD6 years ago (edited)

I started watching Mr.Robot when its first season was just ending, I don't remember exactly how I discovered it, but I think it was because of some announcement on YouTube or because a spot from one of its chapters was on YouTube trends at that time, whatever the reason, having discovered this series is one of the best things I've done in the area of audio-visual entertainment.

For a long time I have kept Breaking Bad in the first place in the podium of my favorite series, being very few series that I have in my top, but little by little Mr.Robot was climbing places and climbing more and more in that list, until reaching a 2nd and well deserved place until his 3rd season, but it was not until his 4th and last season, which was released in December last year, that, personally, I place it together with Breaking Bad, sharing the 1st place of my favorite series.

And it is that Mr.Robot from its beginning caught me, in that moment when I began to see it, exactly I was studying the first semester of the career of "Informatics Engineering", therefore, being Mr.Robot a series where one of the main points is the programming and hacking, I felt identified and amazed all that movement referring to the computer science, but, what really caught me was the whole personal matter that happens with the main protagonist.

All his problems and mental demons that he had to go through during and before the events of the series, were events from which he "helped" them to become the person he is and was today and are the triggers of all his principles and everything he wants and does during the whole duration of the series.

And if it were not enough to have a captivating plot with very crazy and in most cases totally unexpected plot twists, the music of this series is magnificent, it knows how to capture every moment and every action during all four seasons, being its composer Mac Quayle, who does an excellent job in setting and creating atmosphere in situations totally full of tension, joy, fear and even in situations that you do not know what to think or feel, a total genius.

But another genius is the creator of the series himself, Sam Esmail, who is the writer, director and creator of Mr. Robot, demonstrating his great filmmaking skills by creating a series that is unfortunately quite overshadowed and underestimated by the public, being catalogued if you could say, as a cult series currently or perhaps not currently, but I am sure that soon will be considered so. Similarly we will find impeccable performances by all the cast of the series, highlighting much Rami Malek, who plays Elliot, the main character of the series and Christian Slater, who plays Mr. Robot himself, of course all this without discrediting the other actors who likewise, thanks to them and the link between their characters create a completely unique universe in this series.

The references used in the creation of this series are obvious, one of them is Lost in some scenes, but especially in the last chapters of the 4th season, you can see references to this other great series of which I have not yet had the pleasure to see. But if we talk about references, I think the most obvious is about Fight Club, maybe in the first episodes you won't be able to notice the details that Sam Esmail has taken from this other cult movie, but during the last episodes and from there on, these aspects are quite remarkable, but Sam, takes all these references and turns them into something totally unique, but leaving clearly where they came from.

There are many things to highlight about this great series, but I don't want to go into spoilers, but I can talk a lot about some chapters of which are quite impressive. In the 3rd season we can find a whole chapter in which they used the famous "continuous sequence" method. During that whole chapter there is no scene cut, everything flows continuously and it's something worth seeing, of course, obviously tricks and strategies were used to film and make the viewer believe that what we are seeing is totally continuous, but these methods and tricks were used in such a way that they are very well concealed and make them totally credible.

I must also highlight a chapter that was completely silent, at least 99% of its chapter, because only at the beginning and end the characters speak, and were only a few lines of dialogue between the actors and really is something that you do not realize until you finish watching it, because everything that happens in that episode distracts you from that lack of dialogue, and because of everything that happens in that episode, really does not need any exchange of words.

There are several series that have climbed through the last 5 years in my top of favorite series, many of them surpassing others that had years occupying a place in the top. I will talk a little bit about these series in future tops, since I think that at least for now I have a list of my favorite series that is quite solid and that will not be modified for a long time.
