First light - oil painting

This picture was inspired by all the different people in the world that suffer inwardly with the likes of depression and having to live in a prison of what sometimes can be our own making whether it be our sexuality, lack of confidence, mental health, peer pressure, bullying and of course that dark place of alcoholism which in many cases across ages and genders and races but to name a few can lead ultimately to our early demise whether by choice or unwittingly by instalments ie alcoholism can be termed as suicide by instalments and although some of these factors mentioned are part of us and can go completely unnoticed by the sufferer, I wanted to try and paint a positive angle to some of humankinds unkindnesses whether self inflicted or not. It is all to common the world over and can get swept under the carpet. The picture above depicts that moment when the weight is lifted from us that is the lucky ones that get to crack through the built in layers of defence that we build up around ourselves. The light can be seen as finally getting help or finally accepting who we are and doing something about ourselves sometimes with help but generally those that can find that inner strength and burst the locks and chains that bind them, from lifetimes of hidden issues and inward imprisonment, see that glimpse of light that opens up like that of a spiritual awakening in some people. You can light a room enough to see with just that wee ray or beam of light but you can't darken a room with just a small shadow. Once the rhetorical light is in, if we travel our toad positively we can be who we were always meant to be and have a chance at finding that all important inner happiness and peace. I really do hope you enjoy the picture for what it stands for and that people out there may get some idea of what it's like to be trapped within. And maybe help a fellow human...as they would want to be helped.. You just never know!
