[PW#6/2020] GROWING HOPE IN WRITING

Do you still think that writing is a boring activity? Or is it also boring to read other people's works? Is typing a few words to thousands of sentences in front of a computer screen also boring? You should not have to think like that, because many writers have published many books and it is not a boring job. Writing has become something exciting for them, thinking about something has become a hobby and writing has become their medium for expressing what is in their minds.

Unfortunately, not everyone has a strong 'passion' for writing, some are only enthusiastic at the beginning, but stop halfway, some are able to decipher in the first few paragraphs but lose their words afterwards. Stop writing is the same as despair so we need to overcome it so as not to get bored and not stop writing.

Books are a source of writing.

Books are a source of inspiration, motivation and the beginning of writing. Therefore, read the book, whatever it is if you want to write freely, do not stop reading because stopping will only make you stop looking for ways, ideas and desires. Reading a book will give you ideas and come up with a plan. But if you miss it will all become discourse without ever being able to see the reality in the form of a writing from your own essay.

What your reason to write ?

Many common mistakes made by novice writers. they don't have a good reason why they write. The absence of a compelling reason to write makes writing consistency very dependent on the 'mood'. When 'mood' is bad, it stops writing. Therefore you have to increase motivation, you have to create a strong reason. Logically, if the reason for writing arises because you want to be a best-seller writer, you can be sure you will stop writing when your first writing fails to be trending.

Therefore, let's change the way of thinking like that. Write to your heart's content without having to see what other people are saying, don't give up your writing easily and not be trending, because you also will never know whether it can change the way people think of it.

Reading and writing as you passion

Reading is a window to the world, the more you read, the more ideas you want to write. But all lies in habit. If you don't familiarize yourself with writing, describing what you see and hear, then all ideas, all of these inspiration will only be left in the brain.

How does that not happen, then everything in your brain takes it out.
One way to remove the contents of the brain is by writing, this is the clearest implementation that what you read is left in your brain. Remember, other people will never know what is in your head except through writing and discussion. But what you write also doesn't have to be the same as what you read, because writing is also good for improving your way of thinking. Writing is useful for aligning views, making yourself smarter and broader insight, and understanding how people in general think. Again, this is still related to the second, habit. So, the key is consistency in writing.

Force yourself to write

Like the previous point, the more you write, the higher the motivation and inspiration. If there are no fresh ideas to write, then forcing yourself to write is the last way to get the idea of ​​writing because thinking that pure ideas only come by itself is a mistake. For inexperienced writers, writing is a creative activity whose ideas can be forced to emerge.

Tim Ferris is the author of the 4 Hour Workweek productivity book. He forced himself to write two ugly pages every day. Yes, two ugly pages. If there is a day when he is not productive in writing, then those two ugly pages can be used as additional ideas for more perfect writing.

Writing doesn't have to be rushed, just relax.

If you write in a hurry, with anxiety and panic because of the target, then it's better to try to think and write more slowly, calm down a little. Because with an agitated heart, panic or fear, the quality of the writing becomes worse. For those of you who like to read, reading writings written by writers who are in a hurry to write will look great. His writing was disheveled, as if he could not think. Poor choice of words. The flow is unclear. The discussion skipped. Lots of word wastage. Difficult to understand.

Therefore, to get good writing, immediately clear your mind first. Do not be burdened let alone you are stressed and think too much about other things, it will make the writing less than perfect, which ends with a loss of interest and motivation in writing. This will also reduce appreciation in the form of votes, right?

Don't feel inferior to your writing.

We have to admit that in the sky there is a sky, on top of writers with great qualities, there are other great writers who are more powerful. Indeed, in writing we cannot measure for ourselves the quality of our writing, because you do not know it, it is not wrong if you look at the writings of others who are good. Sometimes, as a beginner writer you lose enthusiasm because you also doubt your work compared to the work of your idol writer.

Comparing is necessary but not inferior. Comparing it is positive if learning to fix deficiencies, but if your self confidence then falls, then comparing it becomes negative. Do you choose positive or negative? Then what's the solution?

Easy. Read a lot of books, and read more. Starting from books that are poorly written, to the best. From the simplest to the heaviest. The more books you read, the more you know the quality. The more you also understand how to describe a good writing. The more you understand the quality of your own writing, which in fact still requires continuous practice. In this way, the enthusiasm and motivation of writing also rises.

Don't expect praise.

Expecting compliments actually reduces enthusiasm in writing because every expectation must all be good, but conversely if you get criticized or vilify your writing, then you will be lazy to write and stop. Expecting others to say good things about the writing that we do actually makes us lazy to continue, because there is a feeling that our writing is certainly good. The bad effect is that you will often delay writing.

So, instead of having to hope for praise, you better expect good criticism. But not all criticism is factual and accurate, other people can just talk without really knowing what we write. Therefore, broad insight and high self-confidence are needed in writing, because in the end, you alone determine the quality of the writing you are working on.

Conclusion

Today, digital technology does offer a lot of convenience in all aspects and sometimes makes us complacent. You only have enough to move your finger so that information is present in front of you. But it is very ironic. Digitalization is a gap for laziness to write, create and think. Though the brain's ability to store information from reading books, convey it in writing is very high.

But writing is not an easy job, you have to be ready with any reaction from the readers, the more you read the more visible your insight, if you don't read it there will be a reverse reaction. Readiness comes from oneself such as enthusiasm, consistency and insight. Meanwhile, at the same time, you must realize that quality writing is abundant, but you don't have to be inferior.
