Today's Weed News for August 15th 2018 #NORTHDAKOTA
For today's weed news we go to the great state of North Dakota.
Earlier this week, North Dakota state officials announced that November's ballot will contain a measure to bring legal recreational weed to the state!
According to ND Secretary of State Al Jaeger, a group called "Legalize ND" successfully submitted 14,637 signatures last month, exceeding the required amount to get the initiative onto the ballot by over 1,200 votes.
The Grand Forks Herald newspaper is reporting that the ballot initiative aims to allow "non-violent marijuana-related activity" for people 21 and over in North Dakota.
The initiative also allows for unlimited possession of weed and unlimited growing of weed! That's waay cool!
Medical cannabis has been legal in the state since 2016 but is not yet available to the public because dispensaries and growing facilities are still in the process of getting their licenses.
In an interview with the Grand Forks Herald, David Cohen, the person responsible for the measure was quoted saying that "because of a plant... They are now barred for the rest of their life from ever really achieving what they could be. And that is the real crime of the war on drugs."
It's like dude took the words right out of my mouth.
I personally know so many people (including myself) who have permanent cannabis offenses on their records for having one or two joints 10-15 years ago and are being denied jobs because of it. Not to mention all the people doing time for a plant.
The momentum is strong in ND with almost all demographics polled, from males to females, republicans or democrats, they all agree that cannabis should be legal in their state.
The only opposition seems to be coming from the state's law enforcement who are sure to lose revenue if cannabis arrests plummet because it has become legal.
Looks like this November is going to get exciting.
