The End of Car Ownership

Ride sharing and self-driving vehicles will redefine our relationship with cars

Cars are going to undergo a lot of changes in the coming years.

One of the biggest: You probably won’t own one.

Thanks to ride sharing and the looming introduction of self-driving vehicles, the entire model of car ownership is being upended—and very soon may not look anything like it has for the past century.

Drivers, for instance, may no longer be drivers, relying instead on hailing a driverless car on demand, and if they do decide to buy, they will likely share the vehicle—by renting it out to other people when it isn’t in use.

Auto makers, meanwhile, already are looking for ways to sustain their business as fewer people make a long-term commitment to a car.

And startups will spring up to develop services that this new ownership model demands—perhaps even create whole new industries around self-driving cars and ride sharing.

I completely agree with this post, unfortunately the human race will be taken down by their own "need to succeed" mentality, we always want more...need to achieve more and can never be content with what you have, we also grew to be very lazy over the years...noticing that we can "control" tech to work for us but what we keep on forgetting is the fact that artificial intelligence is imminent and will turn against us IF its learning algorithm turns that way either via a bug in the code or hacker with malicious intend.

I agree and disagree
I always want MOAH...fun,love, happiness
...and I'm willing to do what it takes to get it.

Once uber has this:

Game Over

makes sense
I don't particularly WANT a car
I just want safe, reliable, no-wait transportation.
not the same thing.

Cars to me are another mouth to feed and most of the time it's parked not driven.

that's right. I own a Z-21 pick em up truck...it sits in the parking space ALL the time. We have to remind ourselves to go start it an let it run some...I fueled it up two months ago and it still show full on the gauge.

supposedly India will be 100% electric by 2030 and probably driver less i'm guessing

if it saves just ONE life...will it be worth it?

oh i'm sure it will save more then 1 life and save the planet too

collect the WHOLE set..
save Venus Next!
(it's closer)
Then SAVE MARS.

The future is coming. The question is, is that a good thing. People are just getting lazier and lazier.

who are you to judge?

lol its just society
