What have you done for #newsteem (and What have I done?)

What Could We Do to Help #newsteem along?

  • Contribute downvotes on (subjective) bad posts/heavily bidbotted posts.
  • Stop Using BidBots yourself
  • Vote witnesses that align with #newsteem values
  • Stop Selling Votes

What Have I done?

Stop Using Bidbots:

The Last time I used a bidbot was on this post, 14 days ago. I know it hasn't been the whole time that #newsteem has been about, but that day, I decided (due to a lot of downvotes among other things) to stop using bidbots and let the #newsteem take hold of me! Admittedly, I still burn STEEM to null in hopes of a SmartSteem Curation, but I no longer pay for votes.

Stop Selling Votes

I used to sell my votes via MinnowBooster when my vote power was above 96%. Although often I kept it below that, I was still supplying the market with my upvote. Although this isn't the worst thing and my vote is relatively small, I was still contributing to the problem, so I stopped MinnowBooster from using my vote. Admittedly, I don't get paid for my vote on both sides, but I feel it is better to do it this way.

Contribute Downvotes

Of course, this is subjective, but I've been downvoting posts that have been bidbotted. This is a little harder to do as many bots are trying to prove how responsible they are through manual curation. Anyway, this is up to you as you could receive some retaliatory downvotes. I'm only getting Camille downvotes, so I'm doing fine!

Vote #newsteem Witnesses

Admittedly, I'm yet to do this, and I know some of the witnesses I vote don't align with the #newsteem vision. This will certainly take a bit of time as I will have to 1-by-1 go through the witnesses I vote and check whether they operate bid/vote bots of any sort. But, even if they do, I'll then have to consider what good they do for the community and whether the net value of their contributions is positive. If so, then I'll continue to vote them, else no. This is also fairly subjective.

These are some great ideas! I'm pretty new to Steem, but I've been trying to do some of these things, too.

What do you think of the idea of following a reputable curator's trail on SteemAuto, when VP is high? I set myself up to follow @curie's trail when I'm above 95%. It seems like a good way to avoid wasting VP, without contributing to bidbot problems, and maybe more in line with #newsteem principles.

I think that's a great idea. Curie is a good one to pick as they freely curate, another one is curangel.

Cheers to you.

So far, I haven't done any of the above. Old habits die hard 😜
The only thing I did is that I reduced my posting frequency.

So actually you are saying you became big, grew thanks to this all and now you are fighting the little fish who do what you none stop did? 🤔

Hmm, not necessarily. I became big due to investing a fair bit of money in STEEM, but I've been networking more and more active in discord (as well as making SE Tools) and I think those are the reasons I "grew thanks to this all". I generally leave the small fish alone, my target is trending where the big fish play.

Thanks for explaining. I agree there is less to win if you stay between the small fish. That is why I consider leaving. It is not really a platform, for many things I am too old to understand how or what, my connection is slow and the whole game thing stops me from what I like to do most which is writing. Writing is not appreciated here.

I wish you a great day, need to catch some sleep now. 👍🏻💕
