Newslink: Microsoft Warns Washington to Regulate A.I. Before Its Too Late
The company echoed tech ethicists and employees in its call for restrictions. As Microsoft president Brad Smith put it, “We must ensure that the year 2024 doesn’t look like a page from the novel 1984.”
Granted it's been a while since reading Orwell's masterpiece yet it strikes me as pretty rich to give dire warnings for 2024.
Perhaps he made a slip and meant Brave New World, as 1984 seems to already have been used as a playbook by the Powers That Shouldn't Be.
Take for example doublespeak (fake news), privacy intrusion (patriot act, et al) and the triangliar balance of power between Oceania, Eurasia and Eastasia (Amerika, Russia and China). No need to wait until 2024 in my opinion. 😎
