New Streaming Television Service Coming from AT&T

AT&T is in the news quite a bit this last decade or so. Most recently over the AT&T-Time Warner merger, which was recently approved and will go ahead, to their purchase of DirecTV. Besides the fact that AT&T owns two television platforms already, they are rolling out yet another one. A&T is rolling out what they call WatchTV which I am sure someone is patting themselves on the back over the logo. Price, channel selection, and availability after the jump.

The other two television services that AT&T owns are DirecTV and U-Verse, for those keeping score.

WatchTV is quite limited in availability and channel selection at the moment. Pre-launch details put distribution to customers of only the highest mobile phone plans that AT&T offers. “Unlimited & More” and “Unlimited & More Premium” subscribers will receive access to WatchTV as part of their costly cell phone service.

Everyone else will have a chance at some point in the future to subscribe to the 30+ live channel service or $15 per month.

I have to admit, after the wonky way that DirecTV Now’s subscription service was handled early on, this price point is quite intriguing.

Well, until you check out what channels are included. This is where it falls short, woefully so.

You get the big names like A&E, Cartoon Network, CNN, History, TBS, TNT, TruTV, WeTV, etc. You even get Boomerang -a channel that most providers reserve for the upper tier subscribers, or available for an additional $5 “a la carte” subscription.

What is missing that turns this deal sour for me is, USA Network and Travel. Hey, I admit it, I like WWE wrestling and Ghost Adventures.
