Paul Bocuse is dead
He was one of the most famous chefs in the world: Paul Bocuse died at the age of 91 years.
The legendary French chef Paul Bocuse is dead. The "Chef of the Century" died at the age of 91, as French Interior Minister Gérard Collomb announced on Twitter. Also the magazine "Lyon Capitale" reported, citing the son Jérôme Bocuse about the death of the three-star chef.
"The catering pope has left us," wrote Collomb, the longtime mayor of Lyon, from where Bocuse had created his kitchen empire. "Gastronomy mourns, Monsieur Paul was France, simplicity and generosity, excellence and the art of living."
Bocuse came from Collonges-au-Mont-d'Or near Lyon. He was considered the "Pope of the French cuisine", the restaurant guide "Gault & Millau" called him "Chef of the Century". Its three-star L'Auberge du Pont de Collonges near Lyon was a place of pilgrimage for gourmets from all over the world.
The top chef has become an icon of the refined way of life with exquisite food and drink far beyond the borders of his homeland. Bocuse was one of the representatives of "Nouvelle Cuisine", a movement at that time young cooks who wanted to dust the French kitchen. Simple preparation, fresh ingredients, regionality - these were the basics.
