Snore: The Government's Going to Shut Down...Again

Oh no! The government's going to shut down! People might die!

Not really Diane Feinstein. Just like the last several shutdowns during the Obama years, nothing at all will happen when the government shuts down this time. This highlights the complete uselessness of the vast majority of the bureaucracy that makes up the government. Nobody even notices when it shuts down unless they work for the federal government. This is exactly why you'll see a lot of nonsense in the press and from opposition politicians about what a dire situation this is. They need to do this to create a sense of urgency surrounding the shutdown so that ordinary people will even notice. Well I think people are noticing something alright. They're noticing that nothing happens when the feds don't go to work, and they start to ask questions like, "what the hell are we paying for if they don't do anything that matters?" Or at least I hope they are anyway.

Another thing that's not talked about a lot is that when these shutdowns happen, the cops and other essential employees like national forest fire personnel still have to show up for work. These essential functions that people actually benefit from will keep on ticking and will be funded retroactively, guaranteed. So not to worry folks, the sky will not in fact fall after all, whether they pass a budget tonight or not.
