Dan Dicks of Press For Press lays out the grim future of where social media is leading society.

I've always been skeptical about social media. Whether people are responsible in using it is another matter, it's no different from any other tool. If you're unwise enough to use it without regard to safety and privacy, you will pay the consequences, which could be devastating. Identity theft, keeping track of your whereabouts at any moment could provide the info bad actors need to rob you while you're away from home, expose vulnerabilities and attack vectors against the loved ones in your family etc etc.

On the other hand it provides many positive benefits to countless people, allowing them to "find their tribe" so to speak, connect with others anywhere in the world which helps to breakdown cultural differences, provides a means to get "out" into the world despite physical limitations and generally can make the world a smaller more integrated place.

What we need to teach and encourage is responsibility and wisdom concerning the use of any tool, especially those such as social media whose power may not be all that obvious to many.

The concept of responsibility is meaningless without first understanding morality which underpins right and wrong actions and how they fit in a context of ethics. Ethics being a system comprised of goals and a belief system that supports achieving those goals, at least for valid ethics. By definition ethics which fail to achieve the goals the ethic was established to reach cannot be valid. Morality and ethics are concepts that are often conflated. Morality influences ethics but ethics don't dictate morality, ethics reflect morality.

The more rational and fact based our view of reality is the better we can live in harmony with natural law and one another. Living in a delusion is deceiving oneself, and who likes being lied to when the truth is finally revealed?

Speaking of truth, didn't you mean "Press for Truth" and not "Press for Press" in

Dan Dicks of Press For Press lays out...

I can't help but point out however the irony of using a social media platform to deliver this message about the dangers of social media, but it is good work Dan. I hope people will wake up and see the pitfalls of revealing too much of ones personal details anywhere online.

What an awesome post - I'm gobsmacked you only pulled in $1.13 for this, when there are dozens of posts on Steemit about how many followers people have("I just hit 500 followers"), making 10x that much, but maybe there is a bit of narcissism here too. Keep up the brilliant work, you are changing things.

This post has been ranked within the top 50 most undervalued posts in the second half of Apr 22. We estimate that this post is undervalued by $2.33 as compared to a scenario in which every voter had an equal say.

See the full rankings and details in The Daily Tribune: Apr 22 - Part II. You can also read about some of our methodology, data analysis and technical details in our initial post.
