The point is that illegal entry into the U.S. is exactly that...illegal. It is not fair to those who have waited 10 years to gain entry. Breaking the law is never justified. I personally like South Americans. Those that I have met here are very nice people and very likeable. I have frequently encouraged those that I come in contact with, that are here legally, to gain their citizenship as soon as possible. Immigration is a good thing but it must be done legally by following the rules. Immigrants should and most do contribute, via their work, to the well being of the U.S. but, again, their entry must be legal. The rule of law matters otherwise we will ultimately suffer chaos.

yup, its clearly a strawman argument that people oppose legal immigration, everyone likes legal immigrants.

Uh huh, that is a useless and misleading statistic, no one is saying that we should not have immigration, everyone supports legal immigrants. The debate is about illegal aliens, so we need a statistic about them but that statistic includes legal aliens.

But of course even then what is the point? If you think just a little bit the argument that immigrants commit crime at a lower rate is stupid because if they were not here then they would not commit any crimes here. But again since no one is calling to get rid if immigrants that is silly.

What studies show is that a lot of the people who are caught jumping the border don't come here legally because they have criminal records that would preclude them coming legally.

Don't be fooled, when someone conflates legal and illegal immigrants they are trying to deceive you.
