HELP POLICE TRACK THE MINTPAL FRAUD INSTIGATION! (Operation Sparrow)steemCreated with Sketch.

in #news7 years ago (edited)

Cryptocurrencies and Exchanges sometimes gets a bad reputation, with fiasco's like Mount Gox, Mintpal and Cryptsy stealing tens of millions of dollars from users it can be exhausting trying to keep up with the all scams as they unfold not to mention not very difficult to understand how the Crypto industry got a bad rep in the first place. Trying to track the progress of crypto fraud investigations years after a crime has taken place or when ever law enforcement finally seem to get around to investigating allegations seems pointless for the most part and uneventful.

As a person who had over 80 Bitcoin stolen when using Cryptsy before the Exchange closed down in the middle of the night after the site had been running a fractional reserve for a year-and-a-half, I know first hand how frustrating it can be to lose cryptocurrency on an exchange that is alleged to have fraudulent activity. That is why today when I received an email in regards to the Mintpal scam or what detective Constable Charlotte Suter more appropriately calls fraud, I was overjoyed at the chance of being able to post this information in hopes that someone from the STEEM Community would be able to help expose Moolah and maybe serve up some justice for all of the fourteen thousand people or so that have been affected by this case.

Cryptocurrency fraud is a very serious problem that affects many people, an issue of this scale requires a community effort in order to combat and deter, that is why I really appreciate your taking a second to read this post and like it or offer comments or information that might help investigators by following the links within the information provided in the article below! Together as a community we can weed out fraudulent criminal activity associated to cryptocurrency or at the very least make the atmosphere in the crypto world more difficult for people looking to scam users.

Here is the letter I received in my email from the Economic Crime Team at
Avon and Somerset Constabulary that I wanted to share with the STEEM community.

Dear Sir/Madam,

Operation Sparrow is an ongoing UK fraud investigation into the activities of Moolah and its former CEO Ryan Kennedy, also known as Alex Green.

The investigation focuses on Kennedy’s acquisition of Mintpal in 2014 and the subsequent disappearance and dispersal of customers’ funds from the exchange.

Kennedy has been charged with a number of fraud offences in relation to these matters and is due to face trial at Bristol Crown Court.

I am writing to you as you have been identified through your email address as a possible victim of this fraud and may have incurred a financial loss. You are one of almost fourteen thousand people that have been affected by this case so please accept my apologies that it is not practical for me to respond to individual queries at this time. I would urge you not to reply directly to this email, nor to phone Avon and Somerset Constabulary regarding the case. Updates will be published as and when available.

At this stage of the investigation I am unable to confirm whether there will be any possibility of financial compensation.

I should be grateful if you would take a few minutes to complete the attached survey that will assist us in identifying potential victims more quickly and efficiently.
