Business Insider continues to selectively attack conservative lawmakers

in #news2 years ago

I hate the political landscape of the United States. It doesn't really seem to matter what the issue is it boils down to a "red vs. blue" thing on any proposition or discussion. This was true all through Covid and lots of minor things that people don't even talk about. Since most of these propositions involved documents that are hundreds or even thousands of pages long, I think it is safe to say that most of our elected officials don't even read them because there simply isn't enough time.

One thing that unites people, sadly, is war. You see it on TV with everyone now wearing a USA lapel pin as well as a Ukraine one and anyone who doesn't immediately agree with anything and everything anti-Russia is attacked by the liberal media.

Business Insider does in fact do business reporting from time to time, but as they slowly start to transition the name "Business" out of their logo, they are focusing a great deal on politics.

BI claims to be non-partisan just like most news organizations and while they are not as bad as say CNN or Fox, they certainly are not unbiased and I don't really think there is any organization that truly is. Recently, they went on the offensive because some Republicans voted against a bill called "The Suspending Normal Trade Relations with Russia and Belarus Act."

In this Act there would be increased tariffs on goods imported from these countries and this obviously stems from what is going on in Ukraine right now. The act passed 424-8 with the 8 dissenting members of Congress all being Republican. Business Insider of course paints this as nearly treasonous on the parts of the 8 Republicans but also don't put really any focus on WHY they decided to vote against something that they obviously knew was going to pass without their consent.

Even though I too am not familiar with why they voted against it, I actually admire the fact that they didn't just go with the flow, even with the pressure from their own party to do so. Rep. Chip Roy of Texas was the only person they got a quote from about why he voted against it and this was his comment.

I would've supported the bill if targeting Russia and Belarus were the sole focus, but I took issue with the legislation because it would permanently empower the President with the unilateral authority to issue sanctions against anyone who he deems responsible for an undefined 'serious human rights abuse.

I do not disagree with this sentiment at all and if some particular Orange Man was the President right now you can be all but guaranteed that Congress and almost all of the media would have a huge problem with this overreach of power given to one person. Mostly, I don't feel as though it really matters who is in the White House and they don't really have the power to do a great deal on their own and this is a good thing IMO. One person should not have that much power and when one person gets to determine what is and what isn't a "human rights abuse" this is a recipe for disaster. It is also worth noting that Insider took a jab at Trump in the article, even though Donald obviously has no authority in this matter.

Also, and I say this as an American, where were all of these claims of human rights abuses when the United States was doing some level of war with various countries for my entire lifetime. It seems as though human rights abuses only count when the other guys are doing it.

I really feel as though Business Insider is in the propaganda business, not the reporting business and this unnecessary hit-piece has only one objective and that is to try to make the 8 Republicans look bad. I respect them for their dissent and think that the political landscape of the United States would be a lot better if representatives would break from their party lines more frequently. The way it is now the two sides of the political fence in the USA seem more like gangs than representatives and this is why nothing meaningful ever happens in this country.

When a bill or act or whatever passes 424-8, this isn't really newsworthy and the only reason why they did it at all was so they could attack conservatives in any way possible.
