Map Update: US-backed forces advance against ISIS in eastern Syria

DAMASCUS, SYRIA (3:25 P.M.) - A US-backed Syrian rebel group continues to grab more territories from the Islamic State (ISIS) in eastern Syria amid fierce resistance from the jihadi militants.

The Syrian Democratic Forces managed today to capture Shajilah town located north of Baghuz Foukani own, which had been secured last week.

The recent advance – heavily backed by US coalition airstrikes – was achieved following fierce battles which lasted 3 days, according to SDF sources.

The same sources added that dozens of ISIS militants were killed in the process, as well as large quantities of weapons and ammunition seized.

Currently, the US sappers are helping the Kurdish forces demining the IEDs and landmines planted by the terror group inside and outside the town.
