Achievement 3 by @jungwon.shin Task : Content Etiquette
What is Plagiarism?
According to the University of Oxford, "Plagiarism is presenting someone else's work or ideas as your own, with or without their consent, by incorporating it into your work without full acknowledgement." Source Differently put, however, this gives people to extend others' work to agree, dispute, or interpret another way, as long as they cite and give credit to each other. Attributing appropriate credit to the author encourages a healthy ecosystem, where intellectual property is protected and creativity can emerge. Without the proper protection, endeavoring artists, authors, directors, researchers, and any content creators would be forced to pursue a different career.
"Plagiarism occurs when you use another’s words, ideas, assertions, data, or figures and do not acknowledge that you have done so." Source
― Academic Integrity at MIT
Among many ways to plagiarism that the Oxford University covers, some forms of plagiarism include verbatim quotation without clear acknowledgment, paraphrasing, collusion, and inaccurate citation. I found"Failure to acknowledge assistance" a little confusing–where do I draw the line? For instance, when submitting writing samples, conference papers, or essays as part of an application, I ask for feedback or a quick look-over. For essays like Personal Statement, I feel it is inappropriate to cite another person, and for publication in journals, I feel it should only cite academic influences, such as background literature, data collection, analysis, or interviews. Besides this form of plagiarism, I am confident that I understand what they are and make sure that I do not make them.
I have read and understood the Steemit Etiquette on Steemit Community and will do my best to embrace them.
