Redefining Online StorytellingsteemCreated with Sketch.

The advent of the internet brought communications to a whole new level, coupled with the fact that people could now access the internet with devices they can now carry around in their pocket.

The volume of information being transmitted worldwide has increased exponentially, and it also bringing about a new problem as it grows, it is becoming increasingly difficult to capture people interest and attention.

It is becoming increasingly difficult to tell people your story, whether it was about your business or personal life

No matter what you do in life whether you are an entrepreneur, a politician or an artist. Your job is to tell your story.

The way you make money, impact or make things change is by great storytelling, why because we are humans and we love great stories.

Since i decided to pursue my dream of helping brands grow, i have found out one big mistakes entrepreneurs and the general business world make is that they storytell like we are still in the 80's.

And i found this out by observing how i consume content online and how people around me behave whenever they are online, be it social media or the general internet.

What i found out scared me, because how can i tell you my story when you bring out your phone and you do this

And thats what people do now, we are living in a world now when the average attention span is ten seconds, most people no longer have the time to follow links to your website or blog no matter how promising your content looks like.

Especially on social media where all most people are looking for is something fun to digest(this explains why comedians get popular fast on twitter and why i check @mynameisbrian blog everyday).

This is no longer the 1980's when there were no remote control for people to fastfoward through undesired content, then people had to consume your content becasuse they were too lazy to get up from the couch and change the channel.

Links are the currency of the internet but pasting your links all over the internet will not guaratee that your content will get consumed.

I personally believe that billboard advertising will die completely in five years time, If you think I don't know what I am saying, next time you are outside, check the people walking on the road, there is a high probability that out of five people, three are operating their mobile phones.

You have to also realize that people's attention are gradually shifting to a new place, their mobile phones

The mobile phone is the new television and Facebook, Twitter, Instagram are the new CNN FOX, and E Channel.

I don't really remember the last time i sat down and watched televison, except on match days.(thanks EPL), but i am online an average of six hours everyday.

For you to make yourself known you have to find a way to create content on these channels that will really appeal to people and give them great value for their time.

The reason for the success of UBER and TIVO is because people are attaching more and more value to their time, and if you can come up with a product of service that saves people time or gives them great value for their time then you can really win.

That is why Facebook Ads is currently the best way to advertise, Google adwords is slowly losing ground, it's click through rate is down by 15% as reported by Google.

Thank you for reading and I have given you something to think about.

You're welcome @ogochukwu, you have done a great work!

I would say this is very true. YouTube has recently made some changes to reflect that now more vids are watched on phones and tablets as opposed to desktops.
That being said, I'm keeping my desktop computer with a HUGE monitor! The older I get, I keep increasing the size of my monitor lol.

LOL, you may end up using a projector in some years time

Exactly! See what you have to look forward to LOL!!

I think storytelling has some fixed rules written in our DNA. but just some of them rules are fixed ;) http://www.semiootika.ee/sygiskool/tekstid/bruner.pdf
