Don’t Say The Shooter’s Name

Don’t say the shooter’s name.
The dude who shot up two mosques in Christchurch New Zealand did so for two reasons because he is a racist fucker, and because he wants to be a famous shooter. So don’t give him that. Don’t say his name, don’t share his face. Let him be a nameless, faceless nobody. Share the names of those he killed – remember them. But make the shooter as unknown as possible. He doesn’t deserve to have his name known.

EDIT: By this post, I don’t mean “suppress the terrorist’s name,” I mean, “Don’t make the terrorist the entire focus of this tragedy, and don’t make him infamous.”

I don’t remotely think that the identity of the terrorist should be hidden; I just think that we should refrain from making him infamous in the wake of his disgusting actions. I think that the focus should be on the victims. Who were they, tell me about them. Immortalise the names of the victims, don’t immortalise the name of the terrorist who killed them.

I don’t want to know what primary school the shooter went to or the kind of man he was prior to this or hear testimonials from his family members. I don’t want to turn on the TV and see discussion after discussion on the murderer, but see nothing on the victims. Massacres like this happen and the media makes the perpetrator infamous by making them the main focus of the tragedy, and they shouldn’t do that.

So that’s what I’m saying with this post. Not: let’s bury the identity of the terrorist (absolutely not saying that), but Let’s not make the terrorist famous by making him the focus, when we should be focusing on the victims.
