Knitting Projects

in #needleworkmonday7 years ago

This is my first post about knitting on steemit. The main reason is the price of wool here, when I lived in Macedonia wool was very cheap there(still get a lot when I visit). Crocheting gives me the same feeling but uses way less materials. I actually started knitting before crocheting.
When I first learned how to knit my sister (@kristyglas)tried teaching me with a low quality laptop camera, I ended up looking for videos online. The method I first learned used up insane amounts of wool since it was really tight.(a 2meter scarf weighted about a kilo xD ). I took apart that scarf and made a blanket instead after learning a much looser method which I don't know the name of.

Since scarves were the first thing I learned, here are three of my favorite scarves. Left one is made with color changing wool. Middle scarf is massive, around 4 meters, after spinning it three times around my neck it reaches a bit over my knees(I'm 185 cm). It's more than long enough for 2 people, I tried. Right one is the same material as the middle one but way shorter, I also had a medium length but I think I gave it away. I've given away and sold a bunch of scarves.

These two are big blankets, didn't really have a good way of capturing them so I folded them, They are about the size of a single bed. Top one is full black while bottom is black and white.

This is a slightly smaller scarf I made for my highschool teacher, besides that one line on the left side It was really well done. I learned how painful it is to try returning 100+ stitches on a needle.

This was my last and most complicated knitting project, It was made of a few parts, sleeves separate, neck piece, front and back separate. I experimented with many things I've never tried before, adding rows, reducing, changing patterns. I'm also terrible with needlework so stitching it all together was really tough. I modeled it after this sweater I knew fit me:

It's a really comfy sweater, like wearing a blanket, mostly wore it at home while laying in bed since a jacket doesn't really fit over it well.

Thanks for reading, I might start knitting again as soon as I get more materials.

That's a very impressive array of knitted garments @ivan-g ! They all look really neat !!!
I always thought that crocheting used more wool than knitting but it's also to do with the tension / needle-hook size and of course which stitch you use.

Thank you, also, my hands are massive and my eyesight is pretty bad so it's hard for me to knit with thin wool :( I can crochet though since it's easy for me to feel what I'm doing.

Wow! Great work! I can only knit a simple scarf so I'm always impressed when people can make a sweater or something else they can wear! Nice job. And hilarious about the super long scarf.

Thank you, tbh I can only knit scarves too, I just implemented the same method and combined pieces, if that makes any sense. I'm honestly not that good at knitting, mostly just improvising.(not to say I don't enjoy it, I adore repetitive work and sound of needles click-clacking)

Nice knitting @ivan-g! I like the ribbing. I can't knit sweaters... just scarves too, anything that is straight :) When you said you combined the pieces, did you knit multiple pieces and then sew them together to make a sweater? That is a pretty neat method! Thanks for sharing!

Thanks. Yep, multiple pieces and then combined with yarn and a dull needle ^^ (had to undo and redo lines a bunch of times to figure out reducing rows and ribbing)

Thank you for for upvoting 😍🙏🙏

I call my attention the scarf that changes color. And hilarious about the super long scarf, it's funny. Good work your pieces. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you :D

That jumper looks really comfy, do you wear it a lot? Knitting is a useful skill, my mum tried to teach me when I was a kid, she told me to knit a small square to begin with and I failed so badly XD

That tightly knitted scarf sounds really heavy x_x there's probably reasons why you'd make something looser vs tighter?

Pretty impressive collection of knitted goods anyway :)

Also jeez you're tall.

The jumper is really comphy, too bad I finished it when it was already getting warmer outside(waiting for winter <3) that tight knitting probably isn't even meant for scarves, maybe for smaller garments with thin wool(it would also curl up into a tube). Thanks for commenting :D

Welcome to #NeedleworkMonday, @ivan-g! We are so happy to have you here with us.!!!

Your knitting is amazing! I love the brown one with the nubby texture, and I'm thoroughly coveting your black and white blanket. There is just something so fantastic about hand-knitted blankets. One day, I will get someone to make one for me!

Please do check out the other post each Monday with the #NeedleworkMonday tag. This is a great week to get a sense of what this community is like.

Again, welcome!!

I've posted on a few #needleworkmonday before(crochet not knitting). The color didn't turn out too well in that picture, its actually dark purple :D thanks for thr comment ^^

A nice selection of projects! I like a larger sized needle when making a scarf, that way it does not turn out too thick. That extra long scarf is very fun and a lovely color.
Returning back 100 stitches is such a pain, the scarf is lovely even with the single row flawed.
I too just need the needles clicking! A simple project to keep the hands busy is a wonderful thing.

Thanks :D i tend to call mistakes like that features(doesnt really make it look bad, looks more like a separation of sorts)I especially like knitting while watching movies ^^

I love knitted garments and definitely the blankets. Unfortunately I haven't even started but now I'm inspired to take class. Hope to see more of your posts.

Awesome, good luck with that :D can't wait to see

Your knitting skills are pretty nice and neat @ivan-g! I really like the scarves and the sweater. I look forward to getting back to knitting (beginner knitting lol) because I love the way the stitches look. I love crochet but when it comes to garments I think they look better knitted :)

Thanks for sharing this with us this week~

If you do I'd love to see it ^^ I agree, maybe gloves and socks are better crochet but sweaters and scarves, knitting all the way :)

I will definitely share! 😉

Yes I totally agree! 👌🏽
