Learning from SteemFest3 - Don't hesitate to bring what you make / SteemFest には作ったものを持って行こう!steemCreated with Sketch.

Last week SteemFest, an annual gathering of Steem/Steemit fans, took place in Krakow Poland. I attended the conference part on 8th and 9th Nov 2018. Thanks to @fusan for sponsoring my ticket!

One of the learnings I took back was ...

Don't hesitate to bring what you make!

Initially I thought about bringing 20-30 Shippos to show my work in relation to NeedleworkMonday. But some material didn't arrive from Japan on time as the packet stuck at Frankfurt custom and I was busy for work and additional family things. Ja a lot of excuses ;)

Although I didn't have enough time to make Shippos, I still wanted to bring something related to NeedleworkMonday. Two days before my departure I started thinking about making pin cushions with leftover fabric I have a lot in boxes. I made a sample and the way I made was effective enough to produce 20-30 pieces a day ... but as I write below I didn't make more :(

The material inside was also from my leftover ;)

To make the bottom strong and prevent needles go through, I put paper in the bottom. The paper was package of tea bags.

Then here is a pin cushion without newly bought material :)

BUT ... I didn't make more. Some strange thoughts came in my mind while I was making the sample: How should I do if I'm stopped at an airport (nothing strange inside! Just wool inside!) and asked what these pin cushions are? What can I do if they doubt something illegal inside? Can I explain SteemFest?

I know I know I worried too much ;) Now I can advice me one week ago "Don't worry, just do it!"

It's not only because there were no worries to bring pin cushions on board but also because I met so many nice people welcoming and encouraging each other and their projects. I didn't have to hesitate bringing something there.

I know from some communities such as NeedleworkMonday, Japanese, bread bakers (!) on Steemit and got to know so many nice people are here on Steemit. But what I experienced at the SteemFest3 was far beyond my imagination.

Projects and communities introduced themselves at the Fest. Japanese community presented their new service Steem Recipe and one of the JP guys @ytrphoto served his coffee. Great!

I really regret that I didn't do anything ... So here is the advice again:

Don't hesitate to bring what you make to SteemFest and talk about it to others!

Happy NeedleworkMonday and see you hopefully at SteemFest4 ... if it's in Europe again :D

it is no wonder that you were worried about whether you could bring the pads on the plane. we had several occasions when we were not allowed to take some things on board and we had to throw them out before the flight. even when you read the baggage rules, sometimes you do not understand them as airport employees

Happy to hear that you understand my worry ;) I wanted to bring my knitting needles but I didn't them as I didn't want to throw them away at the airport. I have to learn knitting with my fingers :D Ya it's so difficult in this globalization age ... !

hee hee I liked the idea of "to learn knitting with my fingers" :))))

Aaww the pin cushions look so cute and it is really brilliant to use leftover yarns as stuffing! I never thought of that. Yah, it makes sense to worry in this case because you will never know with things that are happening around the world, airport security can be quite unpredictable. But I am happy to read you made it there and back safely! :) Wish we could all go and meet there someday! And hope they can bring down the ticket price :P

Happy to read your understanding marblely :) I thought many people think "Oh no ... you worry too much".

About the stuffing, used coffee powder (dried) works too. One of my pincushions have it inside for 5 years. Seems oil from natural material such as wool and coffee works.

May be NeedleworkMonday Fest somewhere in the future :D Although the ticket price of SteemFest looked expensive but location, well arranged events, food, good talks, overall it's well worth the money. Ja but I have to confess my ticked was payed by one of the Japanese old members @fusan ;) I think we can make NeedleworkMonday Fest ticked less expensive by cooking ourselves. I can bake bread!

This sounds amazing, meeting so many new people (but also a bit frightening). As I am not an expirienced airplane user, I have no idea what is allowed. It would have been super sad to throw out this cute pincushion, so I can relate totally.
Did you liked Krakow? I was there only once maaaaaany years ago for a dance festival (we had some performance there, one in an old salt mine, super fascinating) I loved the town and its old buildings. Especially the cathedral and the jewish quarter.

Airport check is quite unpredictable ... I was taken some things such as my daughter's nail clipper. It was OK at Frankfurt airport but wasn't OK at Bangkok airport. These experiences make me chicken to bring things on board. Of course I can pay additional 40 EUR (?) to Ryanair and put them in a check in luggage but it's too expensive for a pair of knitting needles. I can buy few pairs with the money ;)

Talking about Krakow, it was my second time to be there. I like the historic city. Soon I have to visit to explore a bit more about bread (I missed bakeries I wanted to visit, bread course ...) :D
