There's A Lion On The Loose! Welcome to Africa :)

in #nature4 years ago (edited)

If you have never traveled to Africa and are of the opinion that wildlife roams free, then for once, just once, you are right! While our wild animals are mostly found snug and safe in fenced of game reserves, it seems that one particular lion wanted to overstep boundaries - literally!

Yesterday our local news was abuzz with sightings of a male lion prowling around local farms in Dundee, Kwa Zulu Natal, South Africa. While only a few sightings have been made over the last few weeks, on Monday night the lion was caught on a security camera - giving evidence that his escape is, in fact, the real deal.

At this point, authorities are not sure which game reserve the lion has escaped from, although there is speculation that he might be from the popular  Nambiti Private Game Reserve. So far, the lion has killed a calf and has attempted to kill another.

The police and members of Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife are searching for the lion to capture him healthy and alive - which is always good to hear.

For now, if you are from this area, you may want to may caution to where you wander.

According to East Coast Radio, our local radio station, there are a few precautionary measures you can adhere to when there are wild animals on the loose. For example:

  • Do not walk in bushy areas
  • Do not walk alone
  • Immediately report sightings to the local police station

So, while the idea that African's walk with the wild and ride zebras to work may seem ridiculous - there's some truth to the suggestion.

Keep safe out their everyone!
