San Juan
Welcome to San Juan, the capital of Puerto Rico. With 428,591 inhabitants, long history, a lots of interesting things to do and sites to visit it's one of the most beautiful and popular tourist destination in the Caribbean. The big Spanish influence can be seen in the city, it was founded by Spanish Colonists in 1509 (the second oldest city in America). San Juan is also an important port in the Caribbean, it's a place far from an ordinary Caribbean destination. It's consist of the Old and New San Juan.
Old San Juan will surley fascinate you in any aspect (very popular cruise destination). With a lots of historical sites and monuments it's the place where you can feel and see the history of the city. It was built in 15th century to protect the Bay of St. John. One of the breathtaking and popular tourist destination is La Fortaleza, the oldest and one of the loveliest governer's mansion. It was built in 1540 for the purpose of defending the city. The most impressive and most visited are the fortresses El Morro and Castillo de San Cristobal. El Morro (Castillo San Felipe del Morro) is the place where you can witness 500 years of history that began with Spanish conquistadors and ended with World War II. This beautiful 6-level fortress has been protecting San Juan's harbour for years.
El MorroCastillo de San Cristobal is also very impressive structure, 200 years newer than El Morro. It was built to protect the city from the land. From both places you can take brethless views of the city and Atlantic Ocean. If you're hungry do not worry, walk to Fortaleza Street where are one of the best restaurants in San Juan. The Old San Juan is an island connected with three bridges with the New San Juan. Surrounded by astonishing nature, a lots of interesting things to do and many types of accommodations you won't get bored at any time.
La Fortaleza StreetOld San Juan is the historical centre of the city, while the New San Juan is a place for entertainment, enjoying in the beautiful nature and much more. One of the places that is definitely worth seeing is Condado, a place for shopping and gambling enthusiasts. With a lots of entertainment, beachfront accommodations and beautiful sandy beaches Condado is also Caribbean paradise. For water sports enthusiast there are Ocean Park (a very popular tourist destination for it's beach and recreational park) and Isla Verde. Isla Verde is a district of the neighboring town of Carolina. It's a place with the largest beaches in the area. With beachfront resorts, casinos, lounges and nightclubs it's also the centre of entertainment.
Isla VerdeIf you have never been in San Juan I definitely recommended you to visit it. The city is amazing and Puerto Ricanians are very cheerful.
