The Jungle Thieves of Bali: Co-ordinated raid captured on camera!steemCreated with Sketch.

monkey business.jpg

Living in a Balinese community which seeks to grow its own food we have no choice but to be vigilant with the monkeys.

They come with the intent of eating whatever they can.

Which appears to be most things!

The papaya tree thief.

With the papaya, banana and mango trees they don't go for the unripe fruit, but the new shoots, preventing further growth.

Hence the need to encourage them (in my own way) to move on!

The are crafty little buggers and will co-ordinate their mission so that all areas are raided simultaneously, giving most of them the chance to get what they are after.

monkey forest home.jpg
A shot from my drone flying directly above our community.

These macaque monkeys live in the forest along the river and our home is just one of their many stops as they trek up and down this route every few days.

When I catch them on their stealth munching missions, I grab the fire staff and run at them, making a deep loud grunting noise.

Which seems to do the trick!

...till next time.

Don't mess with the staff!.jpg

Smart little monkeys huh! They look quite guilty on those pictures, like they know exactly what they're doing. Especially the bamboo shoot thief :-)

hahahaha yeah foodie they will steal your food too

When they realise I am watching them, they do sometimes have that look of guilt for sure! They know they are naughty monkeys :)

brilliant!

I just can't imagine... that's a whole different level of "pest control" you're dealing with. I don't suppose a "super soaker" water cannon would make any impression on them?

Actually the water canon would do the trick nicely. My 2 year old broke it however! So, now it's back to the basics of loud noises and confident aggressive movement towards them. Without confidence, there can be trouble. When I first met the monkeys, Bid Daddy had no fear of me at all. Mostly because I was untrained at that time in the art of monkey!

too sad you have to struggle with this smart little theft. 😂😂
hope you could get solution.

It's not really a big problem for us. There are ways. Ultimately we must grow an area which will satisfy them before they reach our 'best' crops.

Haha... monkeys! I remember them "stealing" to tourists in Ubud, haha

Yep, they still do!

they have bad habbits but they look cute to me :p

Yeah, I love them really :)

And would gladly share what I have with them, but this would only encourage them to return more often!

so u are saying people here are monkeys hahahahahaha #justkidding :p

Monkeys are moneys, people are people....

And I love them all equally :)

hey my friend meep
